Mythology Research Essay: Cepheus Cepheus is the "King" among the stars. The constellation Cepheus reprints the mythological king of Æthiopia, which would've been modern day northwestern Africa and part of Israel. The myth associated with the constellation has more to do with Cepheus' family instead of him. It's a tale about a vain queen and sea monster. Beside the myth behind Cepheus the constellation has interesting aspects too. Cepheus was married to Cassiopeia, which made her the queen of Æthiopia, and they had a beautiful daughter named Andromeda. Cassiopeia was a vain queen and said things that angered the gods. Cassiopeia went on and on about how she gorgeous she was and how Andromeda was more beautiful than the sea nymphs. This …show more content…
Cepheus belongs to the Perseus constellation family along with Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Cetus, Lacerta, Pegasus, Perseus, and Triangulum. His neighboring constellations are Andromeda, Cassiopeia,Cygnus, Draco, Camelopardalis, Lacerta, and Ursa Minor. The myth behind Cepheus is interesting, the problems in the story were self inflicted because they were disrespectful; so the myth teaches the lesson of obedience. Cepheus' myth is pretty cool because his story intertwines with Perseus. The myth doesn't have much to do with Cepheus himself but it is his life and how he solves a problem. Even the shape of the constellation goes back to the myth, it's in the shape of a house–representing his kingdom–but he is drawn upside down, it can represent how in the myth their whole life's are turned upside down because of their
... Odysseus' experience with Calypso reflects his strength and diligence, though he cries all day everyday. It is quite ironic. Calypso seems to represent womanly jealousy. She knows he has a wife waiting in Ithaca for him, yet she continues to retain him for her own selfish happiness. She seems to be a little unsure if she is greater in beauty than Penelope when she assures Odysseus that she exceeds Penelope by far in that area. It seems that she knew what his reply would be and merely wanted to hear it from his mouth.
The Hero Perseus is the son of the immortal Zeus and the mortal Danaë. Apart from having clear connections to his divine father Zeus, Perseus is also a descendant of Poseidon, Oceanus, and Tethys. In his lineage, Perseus can be linked to numerous kings and queens of diverse states. In particular, Perseus descended from Acrisius, king of Argos and brother of the King of Tiryns. Further generations include Abas, the founder of the Abantes, as well as connections to Cepheus and Cassipeä, the parents if his future wife, Andromeda. Other kings include Epaphus of Egypt, Minos of Crete, Phineus of Thrace, and
Nettie was wanted by Mister because she was beautiful, her father wanted to get rid of Celie because she was the ugly, spoiled one. Celie believes she is ugly until Shug forces her to face her beauty, her smile, and her strength but still the Mister wanted to get rid of her. The reason Shug can get away is through her voice, her talent, and her attractiveness. But in The Odyssey some women are known for the deeds of their sons or husbands, and never for a heroic deed of their own, their personalities, what they do themselves. The only accomplishment women could achieve was being beautiful. Penelope, Odysseus ' queen, is paid attention to only because of her position. Because she has a kingdom, she has suitors crowding around her day and night. Being a woman, Penelope has no control over what the suitors do and cannot get rid of them. The suitors want her wealth and her kingdom. They do not respect her enough to stop feeding on Odysseus ' wealth; they feel she owes them something because she won 't marry one of them. One of the suitors, tells Telemachus "...but you should know the suitors are not to blame- it is your own incomparably cunning mother "(Homer 21). Even Telemachus doesn 't respect his mother as he should. When the song of a minstrel makes her sad and Penelope requests him to stop playing, Telemachus interrupts and
The main difference with these characters is that in the movie, Orpheus cheats on his fiancée. We soon see that Eurydice is the wildcard when it comes to Orpheus. It does not matter whether or not he is with another woman, she will do what it takes to win Orpheus’s love. This is where one of the main differences occurs. Contrary to the myth, Orpheus cheats on his fiancée and gives his love and affection to Eurydic...
‘Why did she drive a man famous for his piety to such endless hardship and such suffering?’ [line 11] virgil lets us know that Aeneas is not even at fault but the queen of the gods has such hatred for him.
Aeneas is a Trojan leader, born of mortal Anchises and the goddess of beauty and love, Venus. Because of his parents, Aeneas is benefitted by surviving the Trojan War and beginning the rule of the Roman Empire. From the start of the Aeneid, it is clear that Aeneas is a confident man with determination and pride. He is a leader of men and, to many, is seen as a hero for several reasons. Throughout the book, there are various scenes that show different sides of Aeneas, however. Therefore, it is difficult to say what kind of a hero he is overall.

Orpheus agrees, but when the couple are just about to leave Erebus, Orpheus looks back to see his lover. With a final "Farewell" Eurydice
Odysseus meets the Goddess Circe, he is bewitched by her beauty and power. Calypso offers him immortality to stay with her, but Odysseus has not the love for her he even had for Circe and he

In Edith Hamilton’ book King Acrisius is desperate for a son. He goes to Delphi to ask if he will someday have a son but the priestess tells him no and also tell him that this daughter will have a son who will some day kill him. He did not want to kill his daughter because he loved her but also because he feared the anger of the gods. So he built an underground bronze house and imprisoned her there. It was there that Zeus visited her and made her pregnant. When the King found out about this he had his daughter placed in a chest and put out to sea. They were discovered by a fisherman who took care of the them as though they were members of his family.
The poem by Margaret Atwood uses the poem about an unhappy couple to allude to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. In the myth Orpheus is controlling and manipulating over everyone, including Eurydice. In the poem, the male character controls and manipulates his lover. He thinks they have a loving relationship whereas she feels trapped and unhappy. The common thread in these two works is that Orpheus and the man in the poem play the role of the controlling husband taking advantage of the weak submissive wife.

There is a copious amount of major characters in the story. Some of them include Odysseus, the main character, who is a soldier and returns home after a twenty-year absence. Some of his family includes Laertes, his father, Penelope, his wife, and Telemachus, his son. There are many gods that Odysseus must battle on his journey home, including Zeus, who is said to be father of all gods, and Poseidon, the god of the ocean who punishes Odysseus and his crew by giving them a very difficult trip home after they blind his son, Polyphemus, or the Cyclops by blinding him after stabbing him in the eye. Another major character is Calypso, a sea goddess who is in love with Odysseus.
