Cause Of The Cold War

The Cold War was a nonviolent political conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union that arose after World at War II. They both shared a common enemy at the time; Germany and although The Soviet Union and United States won the war, competition and conflict between the two had led to the Cold War lasting from 1945 to 1990. The Soviet Union had used its political beliefs to try and dominate Eastern Europe in fact they even set up communist governments in other countries and caused even more tension in the Cold War.

During the Cold War there was much distrust between the United States and the Soviet Union which caused the both to engage in secret operations such as spying, and propaganda. Although that was what both the United States

and Soviet Union had done; there were 3 main things that had caused the great tension, Spheres Of Influence, Ideology, and Military Factors. Spheres of Influence was like propaganda although it was more based on facts, for example former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill gave a famous speech named “Iron Curtain” which he had accused the Soviet Union of trying to expand its political beliefs by dominating Eastern Europe. The Soviets soon responded explaining they simply just want to be protected from another invasion like Germany’s in World War II. Winston and the west felt they couldn’t trust the Soviets anymore and even recalled then Treaty that Hitler and Stalin had when they divided Poland between the Soviet Union and Germany. Ideology is beliefs that the United States and Soviet Union had which even caused conflict since they both had differing beliefs. The United States ideology was based on free market capitalism, individualism, and personal rights. The Soviet Union’s ideology regularly intervened in the economy and life of their citizens. Military Factors was the military buildup that both The US and Soviet Union had; whenever one made some sort of change in their arsenal, the other responded and they never had disarmed.
The Soviet Union was the most responsible for the Cold War and in fact, there has been more evidence suggesting this. According to Winston Churchill’s speech “Iron Curtain” The Soviet Union had tried to expand its political beliefs and place communist governments throughout Eastern Europe and in response, claim they just want to prevent another invasion and spread communism at the same time. They also feel insecure and only seek security through deadly struggle for total destruction as pointed out from George F. Kennan’s Long Telegram, “At the bottom of the Soviet view of world affairs is…. Russian sense of insecurity, and they have learned to seek security only in patient but deadly struggle for total destruction of rival power, never in compacts and compromises with it”.
The United States was the least responsible for the Cold War and there isn’t that much proof other than the Soviet’s beliefs. In Stalin’s “Election Speech” he had argued that World War II had only broke out only because of capitalists, “It would be wrong to think that the second World War broke out accidently… As a matter of fact, the war broke out as the inevitable result of… capitalists…”
In conclusion the Soviet Union is the most responsible for the Cold War, because overall evidence suggests that the Soviet Union tried to expand communist belief in order to just protect itself (Russia) from another invasion like that of WWII (Germany).
