The practice of abortion has been around longer than the first legalization of it back in 1973. The implementation of a medical abortion is when there are medical and surgical procedures to put an end to a pregnancy. Since then in modern day America, people have been split on whether you are ‘pro life’ or ‘pro choice’. Pro life indicating you are opposed to abortion, pro choice being you are for it. The Catholic church believes that abortion is ending the life of a human and they stand with pro life. The action of abortion is wrong and is killing the life of a fetus and should be illegal. The Catholic church opposes both medical and surgical abortion no matter the circumstances. The Catholic church teaches that all lives are sacred from the …show more content…
This is breaking the 5th commandment that God placed in the Old Testament. Catholics believe the beginning of life happens at conception. The Catholic church believes those who have abortions and those who perform abortions are in grave matter and committing murder. They are taking away the life of a potential human being. I believe that abortion is inhumane. You are taking the life away that you have created. I don’t agree with any of the arguments put forth by the people who are Pro Choice. There are no valid reasons for having an abortion. Saying “My body, my choice”. This statement is not entirely true. The fetus is not part of your body, they have a different set of DNA, possibly could have a different sex and they have a different blood type. That is why some Women develop Rhesus disease which occurs when the Mother’s immune system reacts against her fetus’ blood type. Abortions hurt the baby, most abortions are performed between 8 and 13 weeks, but the heart starts beating at 6 weeks and the fetus starts to feel pain at 7 weeks. By the end of the first trimester, the baby makes faces, kicks and even sucks on its own fingers. It is developing into a ‘real’ person. This is where the child’s life is being taken
The Roman Catholic Catechism teaches that at the moment a sperm enters an egg, a life is formed, so, “a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person” (“Catechism of the Catholic Church”). The Church also condemns abortion for any reason, because it is considered murder, a crime, a grave evil, and a mortal sin. Also, elective abortion for personal or social convenience is forbidden by some religious groups, but many religious denominations believe that there are certain circumstances where abortion is justified: “... a pregnancy that threatens the life of the mother or that has come about as the result of rape or incest” ("Religious Groups’ Official Positions on Abortion"). Such a view is sanctioned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Episcopal Church; Evangelical Lutheran Church; Hinduism; Islam; and Judaism. Although there is conflict between religious denominations over the issue on what is morally right on abortion, many agree on the importance of the well being of the mother in considering whether or not it is ethically right to
Abortions are very selfish and a cruel way to end pregnancy. Abortions wouldn’t be needed if females would take responsibility and either use contraception or own up to their mistakes. Abortion is murder no matter how you look at it and murderers should be punished for their actions. Choose to be pro-life and stand up for the innocent babies that can’t.
What is abortion? Abortion is the direct and purposeful taking of the life of a human being inside the womb. The church teaches that abortion is forbidden just as murder is forbidden. As Catholics we believe that all life is sacred from the moment of conception till death, and the killing of a human being unborn or born is morally wrong and we are to go against abortion.
Abortion has been an on-going debate throughout all history. The two sides are pro-choice and pro-life. People who are pro-life are against it and the people who are for it are pro-choice. It all began in 1973, the Supreme court made abortion legal, according to the 14th amendment it’s a right to privacy to women. Some women, who are pro-choice, think it’s empowering, because they can do with their body as they please. Others, who are pro-life, think it’s morally and ethically wrong to kill an unborn child. When you choose to get an abortion, you’re choosing to kill an unborn child, medical complications, the man tends to have no say, and theology is influential in making the decision.

For many years, the morality of abortion has been questioned by two perspectives: pro-choice and pro-life. While modern culture explains that abortion is a woman’s free choice if she does not want the unborn baby, the Catholic Church teaches the world that from the moment of conception there is a child with a soul within the womb, and to abort it would be to murder an innocent being.
People try to say that the baby isn't alive and it's totally unaware. They said that no one is hurt since the fetus is not a person. Life in the womb is not human because is not fully developed, therefore abortion is not killing a life. Some may also argue that the fetus may have some sort of deformity or some health condition that will deprive it of adapting to the world. Other said that rape is a condition that justifies abortion. Women who were raped by a stranger or by a relative makes hard for the women to proceed with their pregnancy. Therefore, it is not inhumane to
Each year there is 44 million abortions in the world. Abortion first happened in the 1800s in Western Europe, it has been around in every corner of the world for the past years. Abortion became a “thing” to prevent suffering of the mother and her future child. After the 1800’s that 's when many people began to think of abortion as cruel and inhumane. After making abortion legal in the United States it became one of the most controversial issues ever. Due to abortion being one of the most controversial topics ever it has caused disagreements with the pro-life and pro-choice supporters. Pro Life means that you are against abortion while pro choice means that you agree with abortion. Abortion is the terminating of a pregnancy by removing a fetus
The debate on abortion is an ongoing argument between the people who are pro-life and the people who are pro-choice. Personally, I believe in pro-life. How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? Imagine not having a choice in whether or not you want to have a life. Well, babies do not have the ability to choose while they are in their mother’s womb. If a woman decides to abort her baby, the baby cannot do anything about their life being taken away. Their whole future is demolished and no one would ever know what have become of that child. I believe abortion is a wrong and selfish decision for the mother to make. The word abortion has become very common around the world, whether illegal or legal, it is not right.
As a final point, after doing some research I think abortion shouldn’t be allowed because you should of protected yourself in the first place. Once you decided that you are going to abort you would have that little crime that you decided to do in you for the rest of your life because you just have killed an innocent living being inside of you that didn’t tell you that they wanted to come into this world. Also maybe later on you might not have the ability to have kids since abortion can have side effects later on in your future. That’s why I think you should protect yourself and don’t commit a crime.
The question "Why was abortion condemned in Catholicism?" was answered by Catholic theorist James McCarthy: "Many people believe that the Roman Catholic Church's opposition to abortion stems from its conviction that a new human person exists from the first moment of conception and that this newly formed person has as muc...
From the beginning, Conception, every human being has the right to live a full life. The Bible states, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you. (Jer 1:5) Abortion also violates one of the Catholic Social teachings, Life and Dignity of the Human Person. Everyone has human dignity that they received when they were made in God’s image.
The deliberate termination of a human pregnancy is called an abortion. Abortions are a widely debated subject throughout the world. In the United States, abortions are legal due to the Roe v. Wade law. Some would argue that abortions are ethnically and morally wrong, while others assert it is simply a woman’s choice. There are a number of legitimate reasons why a woman would choose to abort her unborn; financial status, age and health are just a few. With today’s technology and a certified doctor, this procedure is harmless to both the mother and her fetus. Abortions are viewed by many as dangerous and immoral acts of humanity against an unborn fetus. But in reality, abortions terminate a pregnancy that could result in a child being born into a family with inadequate finances, irresponsible parenting, and possible health problems. For these reasons, abortions offer a perfectly viable solution in situations that would otherwise result in children being raised under circumstances that are at best, not ideal, and at worst, harmful and potentially dangerous.
Abortion by definition means the way of ending pregnancy by removing fetus from the womb before it is able to survive independently. Abortion is an extremely debatable issue because while some people are completely against it, others believe that a woman should have the right to choose. Abortion decision is like killing own child or killing an innocent human life before coming out from uterus. I will explain how a human life is being destroyed, the process in which they destroy the fetus, and how to avoid this situation all together I believe that abortion is morally impermissible.
As stated multiple times; Psalm 139:13-16, speaks of God’s active role in or creation and formation in the womb, therefore this states God makes all fetus/ people for a certain reason and this means God does not want abortion otherwise why would he make them. Exodus 21:22-25, prescribes the same penalty, death, for someone who causes the death of a baby in the womb as for someone who commits murder, this clearly indicates that God then considers a fetus/ baby in the womb as to be the same as a full-grown adult, this then means God indicates abortion is wrong. Christian’s beliefs of abortion is it not a matter of a woman’s right to choose, it is a matter of the life or death of a human being made in God’s image, Genesis 1:26-27, 9:6. The first argument that fights against the Christian stance on abortion is “What about cases of rape and/or incest?” two wrongs do not make a right. The child who is born of rape/incest could be given in adoption to a loving family and are unable to have children on their own. The baby is innocent therefore should not be punished for the acts of its father. The Roman Catholic Church says abortion is a grave moral wrong. As based on the written word of God and natural law, as they prohibit abortion under any circumstances, "You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the new born to perish". As
