Imagine being all alone in the world or that everyone around you is dying. It is not a pleasant picture however Ellie Wiesel along with Holden Caulfield went through this horrific experience. Holden from the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger wants to avoid growing up because of all he has suffers. On the other hand, there is Ellie Wiesel who is the author of Night; one can see how his belief in humanity and God fades throughout the story. Both characters have a strong transformation along the narrative like losing faith as well as losing their childhood that changes their thought of life. He was only fifteen when he was taken to a concentration camp and was separated from his mother and sisters. Wiesel and his father suffered a lot but the thought of inspiring the other to stay alive was their motivation. Despite the ambition, Ellie started to question God by the cause of the torment they went through. Although, when his father died he lost his total faith in humanity and God. All of that happened because he was exposed to all cruelty of the Holocaust, which brought the selfishness out of people including him. For instance, when they were killing each other for bread or when he felt a relief when his father died. One cannot blame him for his actions or thought because he went through a humongous transition that he was lucky to survive. Transformation "a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance" is what Wiesel and Caulfield went through in their life. Holden Caulfield said that he desired to be a catcher in the rye to his sister: Phoebe since she asked him what he wanted to be. The catcher in the rye meaning that he wants to save children from losing their innocence like he did. The title of the novel, Night, is a symbolism to Wiesel being that everything was taken away from him by night.
