On July 15, 2008, grandmother Cindy Anthony notifies the Orange County Sheriff’s Office of the disappearance of her 2-year-old granddaughter, Caylee Anthony. The 911 call to the sheriff’s office comes just two days after Cindy and her husband, George Anthony, had received a letter in the mail notifying them that their daughter and the mother of Caylee, Casey Anthony’s car had been towed. Upon receiving this information, Cindy contacted Casey to further question her about the whereabouts of her granddaughter Caylee. At this time Casey admitted that she had not seen Caylee in 31 days after leaving her with a babysitter named Zenaida "Zanny" Fernandez-Gonzalez. (Biography.com Editors, n.d.) However, upon further questioning by the Orange County …show more content…
Sheriff’s Office discrepancies in Casey’s statement became very apparent to investigators. In fact, further questioning revealed that Casey Anthony had fabricated stories on several accounts, including that she had left Caylee with "Zanny" the nanny who was introduced to her by a friend, Jeff Hopkins. Additionally, Casey fabricated to investigators that she was currently employed by Universal Studios where she had been employed there for over four years, and that she has spoken to a co-worker by the name of Juliette Lewis about the disappearance of her daughter (Casey Anthony Trial Fast Facts, 2015). Unfortunately, Casey claimed that she could not remember the phone numbers or another means of contacting Fernandez-Gonzalez, Hopkins, or Lewis. These series of falsehoods undoubtedly stalled the momentum of the investigation into the disappearance of Caylee Anthony before it even began.
Not to mention the precautionary measures believed to be taken by Casey Anthony to conceal the decomposition of Caylee that is believed to have occurred in the trunk of her car with the inclusion of a bag of decomposing trash.. Precautionary acts as defined by Turvey, are meant to hamper or defeat investigative or forensic efforts (Turvey, 2012). Although a verdict of not guilty on the accounts of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child was rendered in the capital murder trial of Casey Anthony, cutting edge forensic evidence based off of the odor-analysis technique identified 41 compounds out of 424 compounds that are associated with decomposition. Furthermore, FBI laboratory results annotated that 67% of the compounds found in the air of the trunk were associated with human decomposition and not of decomposing garbage. In conjunction with the air samples, insects associated with decaying matter were identified but they too can be associated with human garbage. Therefore, the actually presence of insects does not confirm presence of decomposition in the trunk. Lastly, A stained paper towel was found with the characteristic for adipocere. Adipocere is the breakdown of fat by water in an oxygen-deprived environment. The association of the adipocere profile to human fat was too disputed as fatty acids found in the trash may have been the contributor. (Crime Museum,
n.d.) As a result, person of interest Casey Anthony, the person most likely responsible for the death of her daughter, walked away from the convictions related to the murder other than four counts of providing false information to law enforcement. Forensic evidence in this case was highly discredited by the placement of the bag filled with trash into the trunk potentially to cover up the smell of decomposing Caylee; ultimately presented reasonable doubt for jurors. Two of Anthony’s convictions were later thrown out in January 2013.

I chose to explain Casey Anthony’s behavior using the eight stage theory of identity and psychosocial development by Erik Erikson. If Casey claim against her father and brother is true about them sexually molesting her throughout her childhood, then that would have played a big role in her life and also the fact that she and her mother had a terrible relationship with a lot fighting and abuse toward one another didn’t help her case. If we take a look at Erik’s fourth stage industry vs. inferiority, it states that during this stage school aged children are very social stage of development and if they experience unresolved feelings of inadequacy and inferiority among our peers, we can have serious problems in terms of competence and self-esteem.
January 13, 1996, nine-year-old Amber Rene Hagerman was abducted while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas. That afternoon, Amber, and her brother were at their Grandparents house. Amber Hagerman, and her five-year-old brother, Ricky, pedaled their bicycles to an abandoned grocery store. This was a typical place for children to ride their bikes because it was an abandoned parking lot with lots of room to play and ride. Minutes later, Ricky turned to head back home, about a block away. Jim Kevil, a 78-year-old retiree, stood in his backyard not far...
Caylee Anthony, a child from Orlando, Florida, only two years of age, had her life tragically cut short in 2008. The controversial case received significant media attention for several months, captivating the imaginations of people from coast to coast and causing nationwide debate and speculation as to what may have occurred. The centerpiece of conversation, however, hardly featured the devastating loss of Caylee Anthony from the world, and instead focused on the involvement and lifestyles of her mother and defendant in the case, Casey Anthony.

At any point in time, someone’s world can be turned upside down by an unthinkable horror in a matter of seconds. On June 20th, 2001 in a small, suburban household in Houston, TX, Andrea Yates drowned her five children in a bathtub after her husband left for work. The crime is unimaginable, yes, but the history leading up to the crime is just as important to the story. Andrea Yates childhood, adulthood, and medical history are all potent pieces of knowledge necessary to understanding the crime she committed.
My homicide case began when the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) received a call from a male caller via 911 reporting he found a body of a black male found in a park near a cul-de-sac in a residential area. I was dispatched and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, I began steps documenting the crime scene. I initiated a rough sketch of the scene and initiated my field notes. A cordon was initiated as I began identifying possible evidence and identifying witnesses and suspects. I canvassed the area and found four 9mm shell casings near the body.

1 – Question #1: (Ch 5) Child abuse intersects with the juvenile justice system in many ways including but not limited to - sexual abuse, child neglect, family violence, and internet exploitation. One of the most important issues to address when related to the juvenile justice system is child neglect. Child neglect can be defined as a juvenile under the age of 18 whose parental figure(s) and/or person responsible for the child’s well being not providing essential support, education by law, medical or remedial care necessary for the child’s health – shelter, food/water, clothing, etc. Neglect also comes in three forms 1) physical – e.g. lack of necessary shelter, food or water, medical care 2) emotional – e.g. the lack of emotional support or
In society, if your child went missing, you would report it and be a frantic mother or father trying everything to find their beloved child. She seemed to not even be worried; like she did not care. On trial, she then said how Caylee Anthony had drowned in a pool at her parents’ house. If Caylee Anthony had drowned why did she not call 911? Anthony then goes on to claim that her father did sexual things with her and that he had hid Caylee’s Anthony body in the woods, afraid people would think Anthony was a horrible mother (CNN
