MSTT encourage him to start the dialogue with Rebecca but informing her without the help of MSTT of his request to open up an appropriate line of communication with Rebecca through text. MSTT encourage Rebecca to start a journal and for every negative cognitions, she has throughout the day to write two positives. MSTT encourage Rebecca to state three coping skills other than the journal she could utilize to help assist her and identify a support person. Rebecca explained she has plans to join a gym and she would like to treat herself to a spa treatment followed by getting her nails and toes done. Rebecca expressed reading is another coping skill she would like to start engaging in again.

Effective communication provides a foundation for trust and respect to grow. It also helps better understand a person and the context of the conversation. Individuals often believe that their communication skills are much better than what they actually are. Communication appears effortless; however, much of what two people discuss gets misunderstood, thus leading to conflicts and distress.
