Carrefour- Spot market in foreign exchange:
Carrefour is a French based global retailer, which first established its branch in UAE in 1995. It was a joint venture with Majid al Futtaim. The company comprises of both hyper markets and super markets. Beside the challenging economic situation, Carrefour had experienced a steady growth and is expected to expand their outlets in more locations and territories.
Carrefour’s strength mainly lies in the way it negotiates with its suppliers all over the world. The main reason why suppliers are motivated and happy to work with Carrefour is the bulk sales quantity the stores offer to manufacturers (Walker, 1994). Most of the suppliers believe that bulk sales volume of order from Carrefour would offer the retailers more benefit when compared to many orders from the other stores.
Carrefour needs to buy goods from different parts of the world. This shows the retail store needs to handle different currencies when it sells or buys products from different parts of the world. When there is a slight variation in the everyday currency rate, there are high chances to impact the cost of capital for Carref...

As the private brands may not achieve or maintain market acceptance these brands may provide the adverse results expected. Financial condition and results of operation can be negatively affected if pricing, quality and other factors are not up to customer’s satisfaction levels. With all brands sold by Dollar General there is the unfortunate shrinkage that may occur. Profitability may be negatively affected by inventory shrinkage and the inability to properly manage the inventory balances. Effective inventory management is a key component of Dollar General’s business success and profitability. If the company’s buying decisions do not accurately predict consumer trends, excess inventory will negatively affect financial results. Inventory turnover has improved and the company is aware and focusing on addressing all of these risks in the most productive way possible. The biggest risk that the company is facing from a consumer’s perspective is that their sector is highly competitive. Operating in a basic consumer goods market there is already a strain on margins, and low prices are necessary to stay competitive. This restriction on increasing prices may result in a loss when costs increase. The objective is to keep overhead, salaries, marketing and all costs to a bare minimal. Other competitors have saturated the geographic market where Dollar General once was
The purpose of Dracula’s physical description is to place him against humanity and see how he stacks up. He has various features which obviously make him a vampire, such as a set of sharp teeth. But there are other peculiarities to his description which mark him as being an outsider. For instance, when Jonathon Harker, and by extension the reader, first meets Dracula, he describes him as being “a tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache, and clad in black from head to foot” (Stoker 15). At this point, he is a regular looking man, or at least normal enough that nothing elicits a reaction in Jonathon. Later, however, the aberrant constitution of Dracula co...
These factors include setting, actions of each vampire, the initial reactions to news of them, and how their presence affects the people who live within the region the vampires inhabit.
The Victorian era was very much found of Vampires. As a matter of fact Bram Stoker’s Dracula was and still is one the most famous vampire novel. Dracula can be heard through many newspapers or magazines, letters, etc. Everyone has his or her own view about the characters in the book. While according to Carol Senf, the novel is written in mainly ways of expressing both good and evil. As we read the book we all find that all of the characters are scared of Dracula.
In Twilight, Edward Cullen presents the question; “ But what if I’m not the hero? What if I’m the bad guy?” The role of vampires is very controversial. Back in the day they were evil, soulless monsters and people genuinely feared them. However, in the present day it seems that we have grown to love them and even hope to one day be them. There are a plethora of vampire stories and many of them have become immense hits. With so many vampire stories, it is not uncommon that readers are able to identify a vast amount of similarities. Although similar in aspects, there are still many differences between the classic and modern day vampires. Two highly popular stories, in which we can easily identify similarities and differences, are Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight.
Slut shaming; A form of social stigma applied to women and girls, who are perceived to violate traditional expectations or sexual behaviors. Vampire stories existed before Bram Stoker’s Dracula. This story dates back during the victorian society. Significantly, the Victorian era was the era of objectifying and degrading women if they did not meet the certain standards. Bram Stoker uses the weird sisters and Lucy; whom are female vampires as a way of symbolism. This work of literature is significant to european vampire stories. The europeans are the only one's who wrote these stories and mastered the story's underlying message. Bram Stoker's Dracula creates the signature way how to become a vampire and how to kill a vampire. In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the author uses the symbolism of the weird sisters to display the double standard and unfair treatment of female sexuality.
Despite popular culture today with shows like The Vampire Diaries where vampires are often continuing their daily lives as if they are human and being the heroes to their friends and/or family, Dracula is a depiction of how vampires have, for centuries, been exposed as bloodthirsty, supernatural beings with sexual appeal. The way women are portrayed in Bram Stoker’s, Dracula, is a result of the Victorian ideals. Once Dracula begins to feed on the women, they become bloodthirsty temptresses which are exactly what society fears and try to prevent. In Dracula, Stoker makes sexuality directly linked to the vampirism in the novel. This is seen through the change of Lucy’s somewhat modest behavior into a temptress, the blood-sharing between characters in the novel, and the description of the way Lucy was killed.
The vampire genre is one that is so widely exploited because anything can be done with it. It can be made into a horror story made to induce nightmares, into a story that displays humans can be just as monstrous as the monster, or into a romance that proves that love conquers all. The mystery and sensuality that shrouds vampires allows for a vampire story to be anything and everything the writer or reader desires.
Simply searching through articles, databases, and other resources, vampires are depicted as malicious and monstrous creatures. First off, the vampire is famous for its dark and mysterious image affiliated with fear and death. In many ways, “the vampire can be seen through its most basic characterization as the bringer of death”(Stevens par. 3) and evokes a “marginal world of darkness, secrecy, vulnerability, excess, and horror” (Stevens par. 6). Obviously, the vampire has adopted a dark, fearful, and mysterious image. Next, vampires are famous for their unique characteristics. Dictionary.com defines the vampire as “a preternatural being, commonly believed to be a reanimated corpse, that is said to suck the blood of sleeping persons at night”(dictionary.com). Vampires are also known for their distinct weakness suck as “various tailsmans and herbs”(Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia) but the only way to kill a vampire is “only by cremation or if a stake is driven through their hearts”(Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia). Another distinct and commonly known characteristic of the vampire is their fear of the light as it could potentially kill them. Emotionally, the vampires are almost viewed as sex symbols as they “indulge in their desires ...
Walmart is one the biggest companies in the world. In 2012, Walmart regained the No. 1 spot for fortune magazine’s list of 500 American companies’ ranked by revenue. This is no small feat with sales being over 400 billion dollars in 2012 alone. The United States in 2012 only accounted for 62% of the net profits of Walmart making a multinational enterprise. In the business world there are multiple types of performance measures that can be applied to Walmart showing how large this multinational enterprise truly is and the quality it provides. The first step in any business is to think of or create a business idea. Without an idea, one cannot launch their business off the ground. A right direction is needed to create a business with a unique idea. However, other options include franchising or buying an existing business (1). Franchising allows an individual to run stores such as Burger King or McDonalds under the corporate name. It involves taking training classes and a heap of money in order to start a franchise. A Franchisee will have to buy products and services from the corporate entity they are franchising from, which is often required. Buying a franchise is like taking a piece of the pie from the company that is franchising and sharing that pie with everybody else. In addition having a franchise allows one to communicate and in essence become a big part of an added business opportunity (4). Franchising is far from easy to start and maintain for that matter. Starting a franchise involves a l...
