“From the sites where prehistoric hunters and gatherers lived, to ancient China and Viking ships, Cannabis has been used across the world ages.” Cannabis is one of the oldest, most cultivated crops known to mankind. It has been noted to have psychoactive properties which are said to produce a dopamine related high, leaving one feeling giggly, hungry and in need of a good night's sleep. There are three different types the of Cannabis plant; Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis all of which have different uses which took hundreds of years to be fully explored. One of the most important advancements is the use of hydroponics, allowing Cannabis to grow year-round no matter the weather and also give better control over the plant's environment (resulting in a better quality harvest.) As well, it is a well-known fact that botanists have developed Marijuana to be much stronger over the years (referenced in Louis Ck's Live at the beacon theater.) While weed has always had medical capabilities it definitely is a technological advancement to realize them and be able to use the plant towards helping people with illnesses including; (but not limited to) nerve pain due to Aids, Multiple Sclerosis, and Epilepsy. Less prominent technological advancements (but still rejoiced among the subculture) are vaporizers and other portable smoking devices (bongs) making it easier and faster to ‘participate’ in the culture. There is even now a Tinder-like dating app called ‘High-there’ that is exclusive to stoners to meet romantic interests on. Weed culture relates to landscape in many ways. Throughout time weed has grown from the ground, and there are many greenhouses in the word currently growing Marijuana. There are many places that are related to weed culture, such as bong shops which are located plentiful (any major city), where the members of the counterculture not only hang out but buy things that relate to the culture. Since 1923 when it was classified along with much more serious drugs (opium, morphine and cocaine) pot activists have protested and petitioned for the legalization. Times have changed significantly since the propaganda film Reefer Madness came out, targeted to parents to warn them of the devastating effect Marijuana has on teenagers. Every March 3rd there is a global Marijuana march held by people protesting their rights to consume. Because of the ever growing size of weed culture the laws are changing to accept it. Cannabis has been legalized for medical use in 19 states so far, and for recreational purposes in Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. Currently Marijuana is only legal for medical purposes in Canada, although a large part of the liberal platform is to legalize it for recreational use, regulate the sales and restrict access to Marijuana (keep it out the the hands of minors.) Due to years of public protest the government has had to admit that people still use/want to use Cannabis and that instead of making the counter culture change, society has to change to accustom it. They plan to design a new system that works will accepting the counter culture. Legalizing give rise to a whole new economy selling things such as edibles, oils and lotions.
