Can men be feminists? This is an interesting question. Can men support and advocate for women’s rights? Yes, I believe that men can be feminists.

In an op-ed by Bisi Alimi, he stated, “If you have not personally been cat-called, victim-blamed, or made to feel uncomfortable at your job because of your gender identity, then you have no legitimate right to call yourself a feminist.” I completely disagree with this, the definition of a feminist is, “A person who supports feminism” according to the google dictionary. A person does not need to have faced an issue in order to try and fix it. Take the Black Lives Matter movement, for example, it is not only black people who are a part of it, but people of all different races coming together to …show more content…

The only requirement necessary in order to be a feminist is to truly believe in equality and women's rights, and to fight for it, push for it, do your best to achieve it.

In a poll conducted by the Washington Post, only 33% of men view themselves as feminists. In an article from “The Lala” talks about feminism and says, “The “F-word” I’m referring to here is feminism. Somehow the term, which fights for social, political and economic equality of the genders, has become taboo. For whatever misguided reason, many people, both men, and women, will not identify as a feminist, claiming that it is not needed, too extreme or even a crusade against men.” The reason why such a large number of people don’t identify as feminists is possibly due to a misunderstanding of what the word means.
