When Sophia and Princess Calizaire were four and seven years old, they were taken into foster care after their mother left them stranded at a motel. However, this simple abandonment led to a series of problems. Not only were they tossed from house to house as if they were trash, but they also suffered abuse from their foster families. On several occasions, the two sisters were beaten with belts, hangars, and heels, as well as having their heads submerged in sinks until they were near death; they ate dog food, slept outside, and were raped daily. Luckily, the two girls were able to survive, so that they may share their stories in adulthood. The women now live to warn others of the dangers of foster care, as they did through their interview with

IRTC called the source with the assistance of Language Line Interpreter ID number 253788 who reported that the subject child was observed with scratches by his right eye on 5/23/17. Source indicated that there are pictures of the injuries which will be texted to IRTC’s NYCACS cellphone and not emailed due to an agency wide power shortage. A successful visit is required to assess the subject child for visible injuries. If CPS observes any visible injury to the subject child/ren, pictures should be taken for any foster child/ren (permission from a parent/caretaker must be granted for all biological or adopted child/ren). If any verbal subject child/ren makes a disclosure pertaining to being sexually abused by the alleged subject or a PLR (person
...fought for what she thought was right. No amount of protection, that her mom tried to offer, could keep this woman from doing what she was meant to do.
Isaiah Sais and Shawna Adams both admit that they had been verbally and physically abused; Shawna was even sexually abused. NBC Universal conducted an investigation and fount that there were more than 127 recorded abuse cases in the state of Florida within a two-month period. There are also several children that spoke to reporters about the abuse they were exposed to. Stephanie says that her mother signed her into foster care because Stephanie and the mother’s boyfriend were always fighting. The Calizaire sisters told about two instances they were abused. Sophia Calizaire, referring to her foster mother, said, “She took a belt, she started beating me with the belt, picked up a hanger, she started beating me with the hanger, picked up a heel, and started beating me with the heel.” She also says that one foster parent made the children eat dog food. Sophia tells about one incident with that foster mother and says, “She told me to eat in front of my sister while she watched and my sister was hungry.” That same foster mother also punished her by holding her head underwater until she almost drowned. Apparently, harsh punishments are quite common. Alexandria Hill was also punished for “misbehaving”. She was found in a corner of a dark room, and was not allowed to speak to anyone. She was being punished for waking up earlier than her foster mother and getting food and water from the kitchen. Not only are the parents abusive, but the other children can be extremely abusive as well. Princess Calizaire says that she once stayed in a foster home where one of the boys used to try to rape her every night before she would go to sleep, which actually made her terrified to go to sleep at night. Mez Pierre was also abused by other kids in one of his foster homes. Mez says, “I was a little kid, they knew they could take advantage of me and I couldn’t fight back. But I did tell, I did tell
...faced was fighting with my seven siblings over the bathroom before school in the morning. I, along with many other people my age, take living in America for granted. We have simple amenities like running water, roofs over our heads, freedom to speak our opinions, and a great education system to help enhance our ever growing minds. We have it made in America compared to some in less fortunate countries, who don’t even have a tenth of the comforts we do. After hearing Malala’s struggles, I, albeit being older than her, look up to her for words of wisdom. She has taught me that age doesn’t determine wisdom, life experiences do. She has also taught me that speaking up against injustices is the only way to rise up against them. “Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world.”
CPS workers ought to do an adequate amount of work to keep the child in a safe and protected environment. CPS workers are missing vital signs throughout their investigations, which may possibly prevent fatalities amongst children due to abuse and neglect. This is why it is extremely important to keep track of how many fatalities occur which are based on abuse and neglect, which CPS workers determined there is not a substantial amount of harm that can endanger the child and put him or her in an unsafe environment, and learn from these experiences to attempt to prevent these
"It's healing for me," Cooper said. "It keeps Kristin's memory alive, and maybe by talking about it, I can help someone."
The emotional health and wellbeing for our children should be the greatest importance to a parent. Four million children and adolescents in the United States live with serious mental disorders (Hamburg, 2006). Some conditions include depression, anxiety disorders, which are the most frequent that may later on lead to drug abuse. Some develop eating disorders that include bulimia and anorexia, others develop attention deficits, become hyperactive or antisocial behavioral responses that may limit the ability to think and learn and form social attachments or communicate with others. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health disorders are one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Three of the ten leading causes of disability in people between the ages of 15 and 44 are mental disorders and the other cases are often associated with mental disorders and research has shown that most mental disorders begin in childhood and in adolescence (2009). Poor mental health can have an effect on wider health and development of adolescents in associations with social outcomes such as higher alcohol, tobacco and illicit substances, pregnancy, school dropout and even the act of wrong behaviors of a child.
I was interested in the debate over her taking medication. I, at first agreed with her and her parents about not wanting her on medication. I was also worried about her uniqueness and creativity being destroyed by the medication. I also was excited by the idea of her changing schools in hope that she would make friends. I did not think about the new school working as a substitute stimulus for her. I was very surprised to learn about her lying about her academics and saddened to learn about her social problems. I was surprised at how much the medication helped her in the end and glad it did not hurt her uniqueness.
Mental health can be described as not having any mental illness. World health organization describes the state of mental health as the condition in which an individual understands his or her own capacities, he or she can withstand the normal stresses of life, can work beneficially and productively, and can make a commitment to his or her group. Mental disorders can affect anyone regardless of their age, their background or ethnic group. Examples of mental disorders include anxiety, stress and mood disorder.
One thing I have learned is that no road to recovery is wrong, and because I found recovery in the rooms does not mean that is going to be everyone’s path. I encourage every one of my clients to find that path themselves, I am armed with resources to help them but I would never push my views onto them.
During the years of 2014-2015 when I was a senior in high school, I had one of the lowest and highest points in my life that I can vividly remember. The lowest point began when I got my class rank, and I realized that it was not high enough for me to get into my dream school UT. I have always had low self-esteem but after that, it plummeted even further. However, that fall I kept hope and still applied. Around February I had found out that I was not accepted and I was shattered. During this time, it was hard for me to find motivation to do anything. All I wanted to do was sleep regardless of the time, which to me was a strong indication that something was wrong. This continued until about May when I
