There are legendary tales about King Arthur and the land of Camelot, the powers of the great Merlin, and excalibur the sword in the stone. What many people don’t know is that there is another ancient legend of Camelot that was sadly lost in time, and it is the story of Merlin’s apprentice, Oliver Dalrock. The apprentice was at Merlin’s house as usual, for a somewhat intense day of training. Merlin and his student were facing off in a sparring session, both sorcerers traded practice blows and attacks. Despite Merlin’s old age he evaded Oliver’s attacks with ease, but the same could not be said for Oliver. Merlin’s strikes were as fast as lightning, each one collided into Oliver's chest. “You can’t dodge my attacks Oliver, so find another way …show more content…
The apparition flew around the sky and spewed fire at the old sorcerer. Of course the dragon was just a distraction, Oliver created a massive lightning bolt that surged with power and with doubt he threw it at Merlin. The old man side stepped the blast with astonishing speed and then he dealt with the dragon. After stopping the dragon with a jet of water, Merlin began a counterattack. As a last ditch effort Oliver quickly surrounded himself in a barrier, the barrier surprisingly held up after dozens of attacks. Oliver knew he had lost so he stopped trying to defend the attacks. Merlin then chucked a fireball at the shield and it shattered, sending Oliver flying …show more content…
The first thing he saw was Merlin and his family gathered around his bed. Oliver was overwhelmed with joy when he realized everything was ok; his family, his house, and his pet dragon. “Wait, what in the world is going on?” Oliver yelled. “It was just a hallucination, a dream. The whole thing was just a trick.” Merlin explained. “What were you trying to trick me into doing? Oliver asked. “I needed to find a way to get rid of your self doubt and this was the only option and it actually worked.” “So you were just trying to push me past my limits, is that correct?” Oliver questioned. “Exactly, now get some rest because now that we have solved your one problem we can actually start training. Tomorrow we begin phase two of your training.” Merlin stated dramatically as he marched out of Oliver’s house. Oliver hugged his parents one last time before he went to bed. Oliver layed thinking about how he had pushed himself past his limits by letting go of his self doubt and finding his inner confidence. Then he fell straight to sleep and dreamt of training with Merlin the next
The Arthurian cycle shows a sporadic awareness of the impossibility of mere humans fulfilling all the ideals that Arthur and his court represent. The story of Lancelot and Guenevere, Merlin's imprisonment by Nimu‘, and numerous other instances testify to the recognition of this tension between the real and the unrealistic.
Oliver lived together with his family in West London. His parents were in a stable relationship. His father was a business solicitor who worked at Clifford Chance and his mother was a director of Harrods. In addition, he was accompanied by his Finnish nanny when his parents were not off from work.
As the reader, we are allowed to walk in his shoes and experience the growth in his character. At the start of the narrative he speaks with fear and anger, but he remains hopeful. As stated in the text “ Over the course of a year , he pushed all of us, myself especially, to broaden our minds and cast aside the notion that being LD in some way limited our capacity to experience life to fullest ” (Rodis, Garon & Bascardin 2001, pp. 9). Oliver is inspired by his teacher Mr. Hoffman who challenged him to go beyond how others viewed him. In the aspect of learning, Oliver adjusted well throughout his years after Blake Academy. He learned how to read at a normal level and accepted his learning disability. Although Oliver struggled through the educational system, he shows great promise. He overcame his battle socially with the Dixon kids and academically in the classroom and he will continue to overcome

Attempts at pinning down Camelot have also proved fruitless. Wood describes the difficulty in locating Camelot, saying, "A late local tradition connected Arthur with a hill fort, and when the Camelot Research Committ dug there, they caused a sensation…The Excavators did not, in fact find Camelot, nor was anything turned up to connect the place specifically with King Arthur" (51). This serves to...

Almost 500 years later, Mary Stewart will invent a way of telling the story through the eyes of a chief character, the wizard Merlin. With the use of Merlin's role and part in the legend, Stewart was able to help the reader feel depth and texture in the world of Arthur at the time of his coronation:
The Legend of King Arthur is in comparison to The Epic of Gilgamesh because Arthur's closest companion was Merlin, and Gilgamesh's closest companion was Enkidu and neither Gilgamesh nor Arthur forgot their friends. Enkidu only came in contact with Gilgamesh after becoming a man. Enkidu released the animals from the hunter's traps when they ere caught, so to make him a man the prostitute slept with him so that the animals would be ashamed of him and reject him. King Arthur became aware of Merlin when he was a young man. When Arthur was born Merlin placed him in the care of Sir Ector, throughout his boyhood Arthur learned the ways of chivalry, knighthood and how to become a gentleman. At the tournament one day Arthur pulled Excalibur from the stone and this is what brought upon Arthur meeting Merlin once again. In The Legend of King Arthur, Merlin exclaimed, "it is the doom of men if they forget." Gilgamesh along with Enkidu together fought and killed Humbaba, protector of the Cedar forest, and the Bull of Heaven, sent as punishment to Gilgamesh for killing Humbaba. King Arthur nor Gilgamesh forgot their faithful friends.
I now speak of Camolot. The legendary castle wears Merlin the priest, Merlin the magie, and Merlin the wise. I am not the only person to dream this dream, many play writers and actors have shared this wonderful journey through time and space to where we may all interpret an event as we see fit. I will now show you who the real Merlin was and who the actors have made him out to be. I will then draw a parallel between the two.
The Legendary Camelot This king lay at Camelot one Christmastide With many mighty lords, manly liegemen, Members rightly reckoned of the Round Table, In splendid celebration, seemly and carefree (Stone 22). This is the only time that Camelot, home of the Arthurian legends, is mentioned in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
We think of the place where these people assembled, Camelot, Arthur's magnificent, personal castle and capital and then, there are stranger things; the story of the quest for the Holy Grail, giving a spiritual dimension to the whole story and there is magic. Not only the magic of Merlin but the magic also of his strange, ambiguous student, the women, the enchantress, Morgan LaFay. And at the end is the tragedy of Arthur's downfall, his passing away at the isle of Avalon and another mystery that we do not know what really happened to him that he was said to be immortal, that one day he would return and restore the golden age in his country.
Fagin has been sentenced to death, but before he is hanged, Oliver and Brownlow visit him to discover where he hid the papers verifying Oliver's heritage.
King Arthur began as a young fellow, always looked upon as a nobody, a reject, a charity case, he was destined to be a squire, but one of those days, he made it. It was the day of Sir Kay’s duel, in which he forgot his weapon. Wart ( Arthur ) goes to get a weapon and gets the sword in the stone, which makes him the king. In the ending of the book, there is a part that summarizes the whole story wonderfully, deciding his fate as a king, “ ‘ Yes Wart,’ said Merlin. ‘ Or rather, as I should say (or is it have said) Yes, King Arthur’.” (White 209) This is confirmation of the fact that Arthur is now the king, and will live happily for the rest of his life. It is a final assertion of his
Orlando’s complaints are completely justified, as Oliver is mean spirited and malicious in the treatment of Orlando, which the audience can clearly see from this opening scene. Oliver appears cold and distant when he speaks with Orlando:
...n the beginning because he compliments Oliver on being sharp, after he takes Oliver back, he still acts as if Oliver didn’t know anything about their business after he tortured him, and in the end, when he’s in jail, he tells Oliver his little secret because he is still fond of Oliver, “The papers… are in a canvas bag, in a hole a little way up the chimney in the top front room.” (p. 414, para. 9).
