Myanmar has suffered under the military junta rule for most of its independent political existence. Despite growing local pressure and international criticism of the military government in Myanmar, the military junta remains in control by denying all basic freedoms including the media, public protest and civil society. The poor governance in Myanmar has brought about poverty, poor health care, low educational standards and systematic human rights abuses. The reason this essay only focus on children’s right violation is because the researcher look children as the most vulnerable members of society have been disproportionately affected by all these factors. According to the regime, children are the ‘jewels’ of Burma, and are cared for, respected and well protected, physically and psychologically by every member of society. The large body of information collected in 2002 by NGOs, Interest groups and opposition groups disagree with these claims, and provide clear evidence that children in Myanmar cannot depend on the government. There are so many violations that can be seen done by the government towards the child in Myanmar but I decided to focus more on: i. The Status of Health Children are disproportionately affected by the regime’s lack of support for health care. The World Health Organization (WHO) found Myanmar’s health care system to be extremely poor due to the government expenditures on health in 2002 equal to only 2.2% of GDP. The SPDC spends the majority of state funds on increasing the size and strength of the military, not protecting the health of future generations. A family is referred to me because the parents have been using excessive punishment with their son and daughter. Whenever their children misbehave at school or at home the father beats them with a belt all over their legs and back and the mother does not beat them with a belt or other objects but she will slap them in the face if they are out of line or she will refuse to let them eat for a whole day if they do not do their chores or if they have a temper tantrum. The parents are wanting to change and find better ways to punish their children when they misbehave because they are at risk for losing their children to Child Protective Services if they do not change their forms of punishment. Both the Mother and Father were raised in a household where their parents used excessive punishment and they do not know any other way to punish their children. They also have no knowledge of the fact that they can change the behaviors of their children in a positive way by using the appropriate forms of extinction, punishments and reinforcements. I would then define, explain and give examples of extinction, punishment and negative reinforcement to the parents to make sure that this excessive punishments does not happen again. I would ask the parents what some of the triggers are and discipline problems that they are experiencing from their children to cause them to resort to using excessive punishments. I would then use those behavior problems such as temper tantrums and the children not doing their daily chores without being told to do so to be able to come up with an action plan to try and help the parents change those negative behaviors in their children in a positive way.

Universally, people regard children as the future of the world. As such, people tend to feel highly protective of them, and do everything in their power to ensure the safety of their young. The idea of an entire country turning a blind eye to children’s misery is appalling, but, in his Washington Post article “The Blood-Stained Indian Child Welfare Act,” George Will contends that most people are overlooking a great source of grief for many children and families. “Simply having children does not make mothers,” said john A. Shedd (“John”). When it comes to child maltreatment this is especially true, if a parent does not know how to take care of a child, they can abuse or neglect their child. The definition that the Centers for disease Control and Prevention uses is, “Any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or any other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child.” Maltreatment can be split into two umbrella categories, acts of omission or acts of commission. Acts of omission are most commonly known as neglect, and can include not meeting the child’s physical, emotional, educational, or medical needs. An act of commission is most commonly physical abuse, but can also extend to the psychological or sexual abuse of a child (“Child Maltreatment”). Child maltreatment is a problem worldwide; the only way to stop it is to give parents a better understanding of the issue.

Children under 18 years old are being recruited into the army because of poverty issues, multiple economic problems, and the qualities of children, however, many organizations are trying to implement ways to stop the human rights violation.
Young children have active imaginations and need time to express themselves whether it is through their words, their actions, or through fun and games. However, more often than not adults deprive children of the opportunity to do so. They are hurt in the process and grow to treat others the way they have been treated; poorly. The lack of nationalism also proved to be a conflict for the people of Burma or Myanmar. The militaristic government’s philosophy of ruling isolated left people to live in absolute poverty and is a major human rights concern.
Sometimes dealing with children can be a battle in itself, but in many countries, children fight the battles that adults have created. These young people are known as children warriors, soldiers, and combatants. The use of children in war is an unfortunate issue; but it is part of some people’s everyday life. Whether the child is fighting for their government or their life, they are often in constant danger. The foreign policies that have been put in place to protect children have yet to halt the ever-growing amount of children combatants.
Child maltreatment is a widespread issue that affects thousands of children every year. There are four common types of child maltreatment; sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. All of these types of abuse are very serious and can have many consequences for the children and families. The most common consequence of severe child maltreatment is the removal of that child from their home (Benbenishty, Segev, Surkis, and Elias, 2002). Most social workers trying to determine the likelihood of removal evaluate the type and severity of abuse, as well as the child’s relationship with their parents (Benbenishty et al., 2002). When children are removed from their homes there are many options of alternative housing. The places they are allowed to live are a relative’s home, foster home, or a group home. In a study of children removed from their homes, 68% went to a foster home rather than a relative or another form of alternative housing (Faller, 1991). Reunification with a parent is the most common goal that is set forth by Child Protective Services even though recurrent abuse is likely to happen based upon the prior type of abuse and the age of the child (Connell et al., 2009). Child Labor is not an isolated problem. The phenomenon of child labor is an effect of economic discrimination. In different parts of the world, at different stages of histories, laboring of child has been a part of economic life. More than 200 million children worldwide, some are as young as 4 and 5 years old, are slaves to the production line. These unfortunate children manufacture shoes, matches, clothing, rugs and countless other products that are flooding the American market and driving hard-working Americans out of jobs.
