Maury County officials say a propane space heater is to blame for fire that caused the deaths of three people in a house on Saturday.
The fire quickly spread due to the wooden framing, after the explosion was caused by the heater being knocked off of the wall by one of the occupants, agents from the state bomb and arson unit are continuing an investigation into the matter.
Officials ask residents of Marion County, Florida to refrain from burning in their backyards after a drought left perfect conditions to spread wildfires across 300 acres. Most of the fires are started by illegal burns, an official stated, they are concerned about the 32- inch rain deficit causing any more damage to the land.

It is so sad to see the horror of forest fires and how they corrupt our beautiful land. So much damage comes out of what started so small. At least 603 square miles of land were burned in the early stages of the Arizona fire only a couple of years ago (BBC 2). In a Colorado fire 2.3 million acres had been burned (BBC 3). That land could have been saved if the use of prescribed burns had been in the area.

Wildfires started as an annual and seasonal occurrence in the south western region of California since the early 1930’s in part because of the hot dry summers and the hot dry turbulent Santa Ana winds that blow in from the desert during the fall months. Now it has become a yearlong event (Mckay, 2010). These conditions greatly contribute to the “fire season” throughout this area. This set of circumstances in conjunction with downed power lines and humans that ignited fires took place in October of 2007. This led to a series of fires that burned more than 500,000 acres, destroyed 1,500 homes, killed 9, injured 85, and forced the successful evacuation of around 500,000 people out of harm’s way.

Terry Fox had all the obstacles lined up and he knocked them down, although the malignant tumor in his right leg finally overwhelmed Terry, he still overcame numerous obstacles. Terry Fox dealt with the tumor in his leg and overcame the amputation of his leg. He also managed to train for the marathon of hope, even though overcoming a physical and emotional amputation. He also was able to start his run for the marathon of Hope, by attempting to run across Canada raising money as he ran. Even though Terry Fox did not complete his goal, he still lives on today in our currency, stamps, and many more ways.

Prescribed fires are a well debated topic. While many people support them because they "help prevent" more wildfires, and they are "controlled," I see from a different point of view. There's a reason most building don't allow smoking within a certain distance of the building. Many people don't like it and it can damage their health. Same thing with prescribed fires. They add more pollution to the air we breathe. I know a lot of people support these kinds of fires because the help control fuels, but there are other ways.

Going into the first race we had not expected much since Susan and I had never run this type of race. There were so many crucial things that we had to remember. It wasn't just to get out of the blocks and burn up the track; there was a baton involved, a certain amount of steps to take, and even a certain way to hold the baton.

Arson can cost the lives of individuals and the damages can be costly. In 2010, there were about 260,600 fires (“Arson and Intentional Fires,” n.d.). Many of these fires were intentionally set. These fires have resulted in an estimated 390 deaths, 1,340 injuries, and $1.2 billion in damages (“Arson and Intentional Fires,” n.d.). Most of the fires have occurred outside, but most of the deaths, injuries, and losses occurred in structures, particularly in homes (“Arson and Intentional Fires,” n.d.). Arson is considered to be a property crime to law enforcement agencies, despite that the fires created by the arsonist can injure and kill many people. This paper will discuss the history of arson as well as explaining why arson is difficult to prove, why people commit it, and also provides specific case examples and suggestions on what people can do to reduce the risk of arson.
It was a warm sunny day in Tucson, Arizona, day three of our summer vacation. Me, my dad, my step-mom, and my sister had planned a hiking trip to Sabino Canyon. My dad and step-mom loved the outdoors and were very experienced with hiking, but however, my step-mom has horrendous Rheumatoid arthritis. Unlike me, my sister kept to herself and is not very fond of hikes nor is she big into nature. Once we got there, I unloaded my backpack out of the car and the rest of my family did the same. Our planned destination were the Seven Falls which was originally planned to only be about a four mile hike all around trip. However, we shorty figured out it was eight miles in total, but we were up for the challenge.
