What is the Campus Fire Safety Month and its impact? The Campus Fire Safety Month (CFSM) is an annual nationwide effort that helps to promote fire safety on the campuses. Held every month of September, the awareness program teaches the students residing in on- and off-campus rooms about the possible fire risks. During this campaign, the schools, community, and various experts create awareness about fire hazards, ways to avoid them and how stay safe. Coincidentally, most campus-related fatal fires occur during the months of August and September. The new students without adequate fire safety education from their previous schools may be at more risk since they may not be aware of how it is easy to cause a fire through careless mistakes or ignorance. …show more content…

CFSM Network The campus fire safety month network comprises of members, sponsors, and affiliates who come together and dedicate their time and resources so as to share information and increase awareness in the on campus and off campus housing facilities. These campaigns help in reducing or preventing fires and fatal fire-related accidents, hence improving the safety and life of the students. Although the campus fire safety month is in usually in the month of September, the network members usually continue to provide and share the information throughout the year. In addition, most of the campaigners usually encourage the students to share the safety information and measures with their friends and peers. Cause of campus house fires Fires in the campus may arise from the irresponsible use of appliances, lighters, unattended candles, faulty wiring and outlets smoking, impaired judgment due to alcohol, arson, overloading and other factors. Ultimately, the number of fire-related deaths and accidents in the colleges continue to drop and with more effort, it is possible to effectively educate the students so that they can live in fire-safe environments. Creating the awareness among the students helps them on the various ways to avoid fires. If possible students are advised to ensure that all the fire alarms and extinguishers are in working conditions at all times. They should also be careful and alert when using any appliance that is likely to cause a fire and avoid using anything that is prohibited in the rooms. For their safety, the students must know their evacuation procedures or plans as well as the emergency exit locations. They get to learn about how to respond in case there is s fire, the emergency exit locations, and stairways, fire escapes, window exits, as well as where and how to use the fire alarms and fire extinguishers wherever
