While walking through the hallway, Jake rushes to his next class in order to avoid another tardy. As he hurries along, he runs into the exact person he did not want to see, Alex. Out of the corner of his eye, he spots the bathroom and contemplates whether or not he should hide or continue on to class. Reluctantly, he continues walking and is soon greeted by a shove from the school bully. “Where do you think you’re going?,” asks Alex. Jake ignores him and tries to keep walking, but he is again hit by a violent shove into the lockers. Alex, sounding more upset, responds, “Ignoring me won’t make me go away, it will only make things worse.” Jake feels like a mouse getting hunted down by a predator and does the only thing he can think of to escape …show more content…

In the movie “Cyberbully”, the main character is thrilled when she receives her own personal laptop as a birthday present. As soon as she gets it, she quickly makes an account for the trending social media website that everyone at school has been talking about. Things immediately start to go wrong when her younger brother decides to hack her profile and post a defamatory comment about his sister. Her schoolmates respond to this post in a negative manner which makes Taylor upset. She is so upset that she even stays home from school for a few days. Meanwhile, she receives a friend request from James, an unknown guy who claims they go to a neighboring school. Each night her and mystery man message in order to get to know each other better, and Taylor thinks he is genuine. However things take a turn for the worst when James spreads a rumor that Taylor slept with him and the bullying continues. It takes place at school, but even when she gets home, it surrounds her. She begins to break down especially when her crush, who asked her to the school dance, tells her they cannot go together, and her friends turn their backs on her. Taylor becomes so depressed that she posts a video online of her crying and explaining that she does not see the point in living anymore. However, school became much more difficult and not as enjoyable when Alex started bullying him. Although he was not physically bullied too much, he was still negatively affected because of Alex’s harmful words and actions. The biggest stresses in high school should be turning in homework, studying for tests, and planning for the upcoming dances and events. A student should not have to panic whenever walking down the hall. They should be greeted with “Hellos” and smiles rather than violent shoves into a locker and being called names. Because of bullies, the victims are left feeling worthless and scared. They may even fear coming to school every day. The long term effects are just as negative as the short term effects though. A child who has been bullied may suffer from a variety of mental and emotional problems later on such as depression, anxiety, and other self-esteem issues. Not to mention, some teens even take their own life due to the harassment of the bully. All this trauma takes place just because a bully felt the need to pick on a helpless classmate. These victims should be enjoying their high school years with their classmates and friends, not running away from them. What a bully does cannot be taken back, and the effects remain with the victim forever. Although it may not seem like bullying is a reoccurring issue in today’s society, it happens all
