At the turn of the 21st century, Soccer was approximately played by 250 million football players with over 1.3 billion people “interested” in football making it the world’s most popular sport. With all the interest comes the revenue aspect of the game. According to Forbes, the top 5 most valuable clubs in the world are worth a staggering 13 billion dollars in valuation which shows the wealth in the sport. Businessmen across the world are attracted towards the prestigious soccer clubs across Europe especially in England, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. It goes without saying that the introduction of more technology clearly increases the final costs of stadia. On the one hand, there is a dilemma as to whether these advances are considered an investment which will generate returns or on the other hand, whether they are simply a financial burden (Paramio et al., 2008:20).
New Stadium constructions are huge investments which affects the club operations especially in terms of buying new players, paying the wages of players, maintaining stadium infrastructure maintaining consistent results on the pitch, Corporate taxes etc. All these factors affect the performance of a football club both on and off the pitch, whether they are positive or negative in the short term/long term shall be assessed in this paper.
