Analyze – Emotions such as anger, hatred are somethings we can control but be hold on to it until we separate ourselves from them by creating a barrier. But once we let go that emotions, we truly feel the pain within our hearts.

Analyze – Every person differ from each other, so does their experiences and once hurt, it’s hard to heal him in a common way because he was hurt in a certain way

Analyze – Baldwin tries to say that everyone is equal, it is the society who discriminated the Negroes by their skin color and says that they are not Americans. Which describes the mentality of the people therefore, it is called “… in their darkness of our mind.”

Analyze – Baldwin says, that one should go out in the world experience new things with no greed or expectation to gain or lose anything, to place where you

can find your inner self and peace away from the materialistic world.

Analyze – Baldwin means that to go through these emotions of love and hatred and the discrimination of whites and blacks gives us “more profoundly bitter and less harsh with an anger” which is exhibited whereas denied as well.

Analyze – Baldwin says that there are two people, one who hate each because of their skin color, and there are those who are deceived by greed and guilt and who don’t care about anyone and will stand up and walk into the future where there will be no discrimination between blacks and whites.

Analyze – In this essay Baldwin writes a letter to his nephew explaining the freedom of Blacks for over hundred years, is not really free. He also tells him about how to avoid these things from affecting his life and the way to find freedom is escape from the history. If he remains trapped in the history he will never be free.

Analyze – Baldwin makes the argument that his nephew, and essentially all African- Americans, have to recognize that their way of being racist that many Whites have towards Black people are their own weakness and their own failure. He also states that the only way that Whites of African- Americans becomes confirmed is if the individual accepts it through their actions and through their own "silent tears."

Analyze – Baldwin talks about the laughter the policemen who chuckled on the reason of Baldwin sent to prison for a bedsheet.

The laughter was not in an offensive way at him as a black man, but at him as a foreigner.
10. (pp. 116-2) “Equal in Paris” – “This laughter is the laughter of those who consider themselves to be at a safe remove from all the wretched, for whom the pain of the living is not real”
Analyze – He refers to the laughter of the policemen that laughed at him for being in jail because of a bedsheet. And that laughter made him remember the laughter he heard at his home without judging him, and without any pain.
11. (pp.66-3) “Notes of a Native son” – “In my mind’s eye I could see him, sitting at the window, locked up in his terrors; hating and fearing every living soul including his children who had betrayed him, too, by reaching towards the world which had despised him.”
Analyze – Here Baldwin talks about his father in his last moments of his life, his father was scared of everyone around him, his wife and his children too. He thought they wanted to poison him, therefore he didn’t talk to anyone in his last moments.

Analyze- Baldwin thinks that America is his own country and he loves her, no matter how much he struggled being a Negro in America and for the same reason he thinks he has the right to criticize her.

Analyze- Negroes in America is its destiny because everything America has experienced is mainly because of the Negroes and they have the rights to be an American same as the whites does. Therefore he calls the Negroes as the country’s destiny.

Analyze- All the men in military who went overseas to fight for the south felt patriotism for their country which meant so much that even if they die during the battle it would be a proud death

Analyze – After going through what all the Negroes have gone through everyone have a wish to take revenge from the whites, because of all the suffering due to poverty and discrimination they have faced.
