Breaking Point A breaking point is when someone reaches a point in their life when someone collapses from all the stress they have from an incident or event. Everyone will reach their breaking point, but one has to ask himself, “How will I build up from my breaking point?” One has to ask himself, “Can I prepare to reach my breaking point?” Some just need to be alone when they reach their breaking point, some need support from their family and friends, and some put all this emotion into an activity to keep their mind off of it. People who reach their breaking point may have given up on a huge project for work, lost their job that they had for many years, lost a close family member, or divorced from a marriage of many years. Maya did not come back from St. Louis and automatically recover from the sexual assault by Mr. Freeman, recovering took some time. Although some recover faster than others when recovering from a breaking point, it takes time. After a year of sopping around the house, Momma sent Maya to Mrs.Flowers so she could get her mind off the incident, and back into her daily schedule. Even though one can never fully recover from a breaking point, one needs to get their schedule back to normal, and find a way that one can recover. Louise came to be Maya’s friend in a time of need, which really helped Maya. Maya felt alone and Louise came to be her friend. Maya coped with her breaking point by looking to her family and friends for support and help. One may cope by having alone time. When they talk to others it may make them feel even more upset than they were before. I somewhat cope like this, because when something happens and I am really upset, at first I just want to be alone, and if someone asks,”What is Wrong?” I get even more upset. Some people will hide their emotion because that will make them feel better. One will avoid talking about it with people at all costs. Some people put all their stress into a physical activity such as a sport or club of some sorts. For example when their upset one might go play basketball for an hour or so. This relieves stress and one can get their mind off of whatever is going on. However one copes completely depends on the person
