For the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, we expect the sales to grow in the first quarter of year one. With people still suspect about the phone there won’t be a fixed demand on a per month basis. After a couple months pending no problems with the smartphone people will have their faith in Samsung again and purchase the Galaxy Note 8. After the first year, we expect the Galaxy Note 8 to reach a profit of 1 billion dollars. During this section, I will explain the sales forecast for each month and for the next 3 years. Also, I will discuss the breakeven analysis of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the cost to build the smartphone, how much we are willing to pay for expenses and what expense we focus on the most.

To breakeven, we would have to sell 267,857 units. We plan on selling the Galaxy Note 8 at a price of $499 which is cheaper than our previous phones in the Galaxy Note line. Consumers aren’t going to purchase a new smartphone if the price is going to be in the same range of the Galaxy Note 7. So we are going to be selling the smartphone at a discount. We are using odd-even pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. It gives a sense to the consumer that they will be purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 at a bargain, instead of using the even pricing method. The cost to make the smartphone itself is around $275. Research and development plays a big role here at Samsung creating the ability towards taking the next step of building a better future. In 2015, Samsung spent $14 billion dollars on research and development alone, so it’s surprise why we are willing to spend $50 million on the first year of the product. We will use our research and development team to improve the quality of our smartphone via updates and discover reasons why consumers are passing up on our new smartphone. From year 1 to year 2 there will be an increase of 16% in the research and development expense and from year 2 to year there will be a 7% increase. Most of our highly praised tech like the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are due to are research and development teams. The iPhone’s sleek and beautiful design has users’ hands fondling the device and never putting it down. The operating system is very distinct, but is straightforward with its functionality. People who purchase the iPhone believe that they have received their money’s worth and more when owning and iPhone. The iPhone is better than Android when compared because of the beautiful design and attractive display, the operating system and its functionality, and the device’s personal worth is definitely worth the money spent to own one.
Over the past five years, RIM has changed its corporate name to BlackBerry, been purchased by private equity firm Fairfax Financial, written down over $1 billion in assets and unsold inventory, and laid off more than 40% of its workforce (Connors). BlackBerry’s fall from market leadership and financial success is the result of a corporate structure that failed to foster individual employee creativity and company-wide innovation. Financial distress, upper-management turnover, and loss of strategic direction are symptoms of BlackBerry’s problem: a failure to innovate and remain competitive in the smartphone market. Recent attempts to regain foothold in the smartphone market include the unsuccessful launches of the PlayBook tablet in 2011 and Z10 and Q10 phones in 2013. Activity-based costing (ABC) is a costing method that is designed to provide managers with cost information for strategic and other decisions that potentially affect capacity and therefore “fixed” as well as variable costs. Since the 1940’s when mobile phones became available for automobiles, phone companies have made huge strides in making mobile phones more efficient, much smaller, and more available for anyone to use. There was a time where only people of wealth had these types of mobile phones. Now people from all social classes own a cell phone. They are extremely convenient and have the ability to do just about anything you can think of. There is an “app” for everything. You can make phone calls, text message, surf the web, pay your bills, read books, catch up on social media, and even listen to you music all from one small handheld device. Cell phones play a huge role in today’s economy. Businesses such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have become huge public corporations with large stakes in the stock market.
