Could Having a Break Be Detrimental?: The Perfect Route after High School Graduation Should students go straight to college right after high school? Well, when it comes to a post secondary education, people tend to take a break from school after their high school graduation. On the other hand, there are alumn(us/as) who decide that they should go straight to college after their high school graduation. Both of these routes are good in their own ways; however, going straight to college is way better than to wait a year gap. People should not wait a year or so when it comes to college. If someone decides to wait a year or a couple before going to a post secondary education school, that person’s knowledge on subjects could end up being rusty, leading them to struggle more than the students that went straight to college. According to Michele Willens, she has felt that she was rusty when it came to going to college after a break from school. ”I am trying my best. I have learned to raise my hand again. I have learned to hold my tongue, even if it means not saying I found a mistake in the syllabus” (Willens, 2013). In this Article, Michelle talks about her experience after taking a long break from her post secondary education. She mentions that there were certain skills that she had to gain again, since she has not had to use them in a long time. If she were to go to college directly after high school, she would not have to worry about those obstacles, since they were going to be natural instincts towards her education.
