Fahrenheit 451 is set in a futuristic world where it is illegal to posses books, and if you own them they will be burned by firefighters, which is what the main character, Guy Montag, is. On Montag’s way home from work he meets a girl named Clarisse McClellan who is very different from everyone else because she asks questions and wonders about things that many people don’t think about. After the walk, Montag comes home to find that his wife, Mildred, has overdosed on pills. He calls for help and two strangers come to save her with their snake like machine. The next morning Montag attempted to question Mildred about the other night, but she changes the subjects to her new script for her television. A couple days pass till he sees Clarisse again, and they talk about how violent her peers are and how much the world has changed. Some time later the firefighters are called to an old lady's house and burned her and the books, even though Montag tried to convince her to get out of the house. On the same night he finds out that Clarisse has been hit by a car and killed. He called in sick to work the next day, but Beatty came to visit to tell him about how he can only keep the book he took the other night for twenty-four hours. After Beatty leaves, he shows Mildred the stash of books he has, and makes her sit with him and read them, though she does not enjoy it. Montag remembers an old man he talked to at the park, and calls him. He goes to his house to convince Faber to help him learn about books, and Faber then gives Montag a seashell radio so they can communicate. He returns home and causes problems by making Mildred's friends cry by reading poetry from a book. Montag returns to work to give Beatty one of his books, and is called to a house, which ends up being
