Bobbi Brown was born in Chicago. She attended three colleges, University of Wisconsin, University of Arizona, and lastly Emerson College in Boston, where she majored in Theatrical Makeup and minored in Photography. In 1980, this being the year after her graduation, moved to New York City, where she worked to get her name recognized. As soon as 1981, she landed her first significant gig, which would get her foot in the door for the rest of her career. She did makeup and hair for magazine models and worked with the photographers in advertising editorials. She did this as a freelancer for about seven years. Brown did not hesitate to share with the chemist her idea of what a lipstick should be, they worked together and came up with 10 shades of neutral toned lipsticks. She reached out to a friend, who was a beauty editor at Mademoiselle magazine, she wrote a section on her new lipsticks. She was then invited to a party hosted by a buyer at Bergdorfs Goodman, and just like that Brown took another huge step on her ladder to success. Starting off, her lipstick line was expected to sell one hundred the first month, she sold one hundred in the first day. The year is 1991, and Bobbi Brown Essentials line of lipsticks had reached her rightful place on the shelfs of Bergdorfs Goodman and Neiman Marcus. Only one year later Brown releases her line of yellow-toned foundation sticks, and four years after her Bobbi Brown Essentials debut she gets recognized by Estee Lauder. The following years were enormous in Bobbi’s life and career, she decided to sell to Estee Lauder with the condition of retaining full control of the brand and company, and she also released her skincare line. She was being interviewed and invited everywhere, such as the Oprah Show, and the Today Show, she was getting celebrity treatment from everyone. Soon after in 1996, she opened her online store, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, and in the same year she is given a place as beauty editor on NBC’s Today Show. With nothing holding her back, she dove into writing her own book, Bobbi Brown Beauty, and with no surprise it made it to the New York Times Best-Seller list. As she was on a roll to all possible achievements, Brown was honored for her achievements at Glamour’s, Woman of the Year Awards.
