I have chosen to do my album review on Robert Nesta Marley better known as, Bob Marley. Bob Marley was born February 6th, 1945 in Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica and died May 11, 1981 in Miami, Florida, U.S. due to melanoma. Bob Marley, also known as the king of reggae, was a singer, songwriter, and musician. The genres Bob Marley’s music fell on are reggae, ska, and rocksteady. The instruments most dominant in Bob Marley’s music are vocals, guitar and percussion. Of the 13 studio albums Bob Marley released, I have decided to review Kaya. The overall feel to the album is chill and relaxing.
I have chosen the songs “Is this love?” and “Crisis” from the album Kaya to focus on. “Is this love?” begins with drums extremely short pause then maracas or an instrument with similar sound begins to play along with the drums and the percussion joins in for about a minute. After a minute into the song there is a second short pause filled with silence as the drum is hit one time to end the pause as the rest of the instruments from the beginning begin to play again and Bob Marley’s singing joins in. The percussion is dominant as the vague sound of a guitar is heard. As Bob Marley sings, “Is this love, is this love…”, a choir can be heard echoing what he sings. The band used the guitar, keyboard, harmonica, bass, drums and vocal in their music. From the profuse albums The Grateful Dead has released, I have chosen to focus on Shakedown Street. Shakedown Street is a chill yet fast paced album with a variation in songs. Some songs in Shakedown Street,are sad while others are hopeful
