“I think our sense is that a lot of companies are managing their supply chains with what are understood to be best practices and a lot of companies aren’t. There’s not a uniform picture," said Michael Taylor, Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Veterinary Medicine at Food and Drug Administration. Taylor also said that there are strict regulations for dog food because the "product is basically the sole diet. With that, the composition, or getting the right nutrients in there, is part of safety." (Hood, NP) But Customers also say that Blue Buffalo has benefited their pet in the log run. Dog has been “man’s best friend” for ages. Around Franklin County, almost everyone owns a dog. Since many owners are farmers, people in the Franklin County area need a dog who will be loyal, can herd livestock if need be, and is obedient to its master. The best breed of dog that fits this description is the Blue Heeler, also known as the Australian Cattle Dog. Though these dogs are better suited for the rural areas, many people in the city own them as well. Sprightly yet independent, the Australian Cattle Dogs are great companions for single people and families alike. Blue Heelers are the all-around best breed of dog in Franklin County.

To give background on the FDA and USDA for better understanding the USDA is responsible for meat and poultry, while the FDA is responsible for dairy, seafood, and vegetables. The USDA was founded in 1862 to encourage food creation in the United States (Sherrow 15). Dr. Peter Collier was the first person to suggest rules and laws for the safety of our food (Sherrow 15). Congress passed the Meat Inspection Act in 1890. The Act made the USDA inspectors inspect all pig products (Sherrow 15). In 1906 the Comprehensive Meat Inspection Act was passed. The act assigned inspectors from the UDSA to the United States’ 163 slaughter houses. In the slaughter houses the meat needed to be inspected before and after slaughter (Sherrow 15-16). The FDA is also responsible for protecting food from terrorists and anyone who wants to try to harm the public (Wilson). The FDA oversees 167,000 farms in the United States and 421,000 worldwide farms. The FDA only has 1,100 inspectors to inspect those farms (Wilson). The number of inspections done by the FDA went from 4,573 in 2005 to 3,400 in 2006 (Sherrow 34). According to the Center of Science in the Public Interest the FDA has no authority for prev...
Bison bison, or simply bison, have an average body mass of 579 kg. They are herbivores, mainly surviving on prairie grass. Bison are selective grazers, and never remain in one place for long. This means they do not overgraze any one area. The hooves of bison leave indentions in the land where they travel. These indentions in the earth help trap moisture and rain fall necessary for plants to survive upon. The upturned earth also aids in burying seeds. Larger indentions may also be created when a bison rolls upon the dirt to cool off. These may eventually form water holes for all types of species. Wolves, bears, and mountain lions also hunt young, weak, and/or old bison. This allows predators to provide for themselves and their offspring. Females produce one calf per year with an average gestation period of around nine months. The maximum life span of a bison is thirty-three years. The average size

Besides, “Animal research has led to vaccines against diptheria, rabies, tuberculosis, polio, measles, mumps, cholera, whooping cough, and rubella. It has meant eradication of smallpox, effective treatment for diabetes and control of infection with powerful antibiotics. Cardiac pacemaker, microsurgery to reattach severed limbs, and heart, kidney, lung, liver and other transplants are all possible because of animal research”(O’Neil 210). In short, animal testing saves lives. Animal testing helps find causes, and cures, of diseases, genetic defects, birth defects, and abnormalities.
