According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of war is “a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). War is something we (at times) can’t avoid that is often brought up by conflicts not resolved another way. When faced with war, some people often respond negatively, leading to their demise. Having a positive attitude is the best response to conflict, especially in times of war. In the speech Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat by Winston Churchill, his positivity towards the conflict with Germany unites England together to fight Germany and win for the greater good. Also, in the diary entries in Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank responds to going into hiding with positivity instead of complaining, like many would do.
First of all, there were many instances that Winston Churchill stated positive things in his speech Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat that gave hope to the British citizens. In the text Anne states, “You no doubt want to hear what I think of being in hiding. Well, all I can say is that I don't really know yet. I don't think I'll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn't mean I hate it. It's more like being on vacation in some strange pension. Kind of an odd way to look at life in hiding, but that's how things are.” (Frank par.18). She mentions hiding in a different way than most would. She thinks of it as a vacation in some French boarding house, when she is really hiding from Nazis and concentration camps in an attic.
