In 1940 the government needed to find a way to support both the British at home and the British at war. They did not need widespread panic in Britain to add to their problems and knew that if one city thought the other cities were doing well, then they would certainly believe they should follow suit. So they decided the best way was to hide the worst news from them. At least this way they would only know of the great accomplishments and fights fought by their men at arms, and would keep hope up of them coming home. This would perhaps encourage them to be more helpful with keeping the industry flowing and the streets clean for when the men came home from war.
During the blitz, the government wanted to try and keep the morale and ‘blitz spirit’ because this was what Hitler was determined to destroy Britain. The government found a way to
control the news of getting out by using the Ministry Of Information;
also known as the M.OI. Their job was to check the radio, newspapers,
and reports that went out to the public. The M.O.I was very good at
this job, succeeding in their daily ...
Why the Major Cities of Britain were Bombed by the Germans in 1940 and 1941
Was that they fully didn’t inform Stalin about the atomic bomb, until it was used. In British Foreign Minister Anthony Eden's Version, says Mr. Churchill and I had previously discussed together the problem of telling Stalin and, if so, whether before the explosion of the bomb or after. If we did tell him would he ask for the know-how at once? A refusal would be awkward, but inescapable. This showed that they didn’t have the intention to tell Stalin about the atomic bomb. In addition they decide the Truman would tell Stalin about the atomic bomb and said “On the question of when Stalin was to be told, it was agreed that President Truman should do this after the conclusion of one of our meetings. He did so on July 24th, so briefly that Mr. Churchill and I, who were covertly watching, had some doubts whether Stalin had taken it in. His response was a nod of the head and a brief "thank you." No comment.” This showed that since they didn’t inform Stalin before, he felt that he was not important in the case and left no comment, which made things easier and less
World War Two triggered a significant change in the attitudes that people had towards one another. With all the death and destruction, one would assume that the lives of the citizens of Bexley would be run by fear during this terrible time, especially as Bexley happened to be an area that received a great deal of bombing. However, this was not the case. A temperament known as the ‘Blitz Spirit’ was widely adopted, encouraging the citizens of Bexley to rally together and face the war with courage and optimism.
"World War 2 was a war fought in two distinct phases. The first was the last war of a new generation. The second was emphatically the first of a new era" .
They wanted to convince the people that they were under attack in their own country. The Germans were invading and causing trouble in their own land. At one point Americans were told, that they should “not wait until you catch someone putting a bomb under a factory”. They were told this so that they knew and understood what these people were capable of. People were told that they had the government on their side and that if they had any suspicion of any illegal activity or thought bad of a person, the government themselves would stand up and reinforce the law upon them.
The British government wanted to ensure that these children and civilians were safe but at the same time they didn't want to inflict too much worry on their parents, as this would cause panic. So the government began to use propaganda, to portray this in a positive light, both for the children and for the parents.

Why the British Government Decided to Evacuate Children in the Early Years of the Second World War
Atomic Bomb in World War 2 During World War II the United States government launched a $2 billion project. This project, known as the Manhattan Project, was an effort to produce an atomic bomb. This project was taken on by a group atomic scientists from all over the world.
Under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration the atomic bomb was being developed. After Roosevelt died, his vice president Harry Truman was appointed President of the United States. Truman was never informed about the bombs development until an emergency cabinet meeting (Kuznick 9). Truman had to make the fatal decision on whether the bomb was to be dropped on Japan. With the idea of going to war, Truman had to think about the lives of the thousand American soldiers. The American soldiers had begun using the method of island hopping, because the bomb was not available. The idea of dropping a bomb was that the war itself could possibly end in its earliest points. The dropping of the atomic bomb could also justify the money spent on the Manhattan Project (Donohue 1). With a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt “This will be a day that will live in infamy”, Pearl Harbor was a tragic day for Americans. The United States had lost many soldiers, which they had claimed that they will eventually get revenge. The alternates of dropping the bomb was also discussed at the Interim Committee. The American government was trying to get an invitation response from the Japanese government. If the United States did not drop the bomb and ‘Operation Downfall’ ha...

The Strategic Bombing Campaign of WWII was divided into small separate campaigns that were carried out by the allied forces. Often times targets consisted of factories, headquarters, harbors, camps, and cities. The blows that the allies dealt to the axis payed a psychological and physical role in how the second World War turned out.
The United States involvement in WWI and WWII have distinctly different causes, effects on U.S society, and consequences for U.S involvement in global issues. For WWI the United States had economic ties with Great Britain while WWII was triggered by spread of communism and fascism. WWII was really the caused by the aftermath of WWI. WWI began with the tension in Austria- Hungary and the enmity Germany had with parts of Europe. Though there has been wars and battles between other countries, two wars that involved major countries of the war and that caused many devastation and deaths was World War I and World War II. The first World War began in 1914 and lasted for four years until 1918. World War II lasted longer than the first one, it lasted for six years from 1939 to 1945. The reason behind fighting these wars are very different as well as it methods of warfare and its outcomes of the war. One similarity behind all its differences is the horrific outcome it left, the losing of lives and mass destruction.
...ormation about the radiation was censored by General MacArthur and was never allowed to be published (Goodman). The government went to many extraordinary measures to prevent images, Hiroshima information, and causes of the atomic bomb from being shown to the public. While this may have worked in the earlier days after the bombings, Americans wanted to know the truth, and many writers and researchers would do anything to get their information published. Information about Hiroshima and Nagasaki were gradually published, of course with the consent of the government.
Since the discovery of gunpowder by the Chinese, the world as we know it has made more efficient and powerful weapons. Throughout the history of warfare from the medieval times to present day, explosives have been used as an Offensive and Defensive weapon. When a castle or army was under siege the attacking army would surround the objective and cut off all supply lines and try to starve the enemy into submission. With the invention of gunpowder it made the siege obsolete. This was empowered by the cannon and other forms of field artillery, which allowed the objective to be overthrown quickly. Military grade explosives are used for benign reasons also. Within the past few years an emphasis has been placed upon demining war torn countries that are ravaged by unclaimed and unaccounted mines emplaced by the host nation. This action is being undertaken to make the countries safer for the citizens of those countries. Throughout history stalemates have occurred during war, Engineers or Soldiers with knowledge of explosives were called upon to end the stalemate. This essay will cover one such incident during the Battle of Crater and the siege of Petersburg, Virginia during the American Civil War.
