Biodiversity in Temperate Rainforest: Plants
• The Canopy Layer of the Temperate Rainforest is controlled by large evergreen conifers, which are trees that produce cones with seeds, some examples would be Costal redwood, Douglas Fir, and Sitka Spruce.
• In the understory layer, you can find dogwood and vine maples. Ferns, salal, and berry shrubs grow beneath the small trees in the filtered sunlight.
• On the forest floor, there is a wide covering of low growing lichens, mosses, small plants, such as Oxalis, wild flowers, and grasses (Melody Shaw, 2003). (Image from National Park Service, 2016)
Biodiversity in Temperate Rainforest: Animals
• Most of the food in temperate rainforest is found in the understory and canopy layers.

Depending on the biomes, rainfall and soil can vary. However, the rainfall is typically ranges from 30 cm to 200 cm. In mountainous regions and forest biomes, there would be plenty of rainfall. While in the grasslands, there’s little rainfall. In the temperate zone, there are two main types of trees, coniferous and deciduous. The deciduous trees, in the South, drop their leaves in the winter. Generally, the trees are usually small in height unless in the forest areas. The forests tend to have wide leaves and tall, large trees. The soil in deciduous forests is found to be very fertile. The different amount of rainfall in the forest areas and the grasslands cause the difference between the trees and plant height. The rainfall in forest regions can lead them to be very common with the rainforests. Furthermore, the changes and variation of weather could be the reason as to why the forests shed or don’t shed their leaves. The leaves show a correlation between the fair amount of sunlight during the summer causing the leaves
Plants make up most of the Pine Barrens. For instance, pine trees such as the short needles, pitch pines, jack pines, long needles, yellow pines, and many others make up most of the pine forest in the Pinelands. Other trees include the pine oaks and the cedar trees. Due to the roots of these cedar trees, water in the Pine Barrens appears a brownish red color. This
This rainforest is also a great ‘carbon sink’. It has many photosynthesis plants and this allows the control of carbon dioxide (CO2). The plants take in the CO2 from the atmosphere and return oxygen (O2). b) Logging has impacted this ecosystem. There are trees that are hundreds of years old and their timber is being pushed to be sold for high prices.
The taiga is also known as boreal forest and is mainly distinguishable due to its abundance of carnivorous forests that are primarily made up of conifer or cone-bearing trees (NP, UC Santa Barbara). Three of the four most common conifers are evergreens, namely spruce, fir, and pine. The fourth conifer is the tamarack, also known as the larch, which is a deciduous tree. Other types of deciduous trees that can occasionally be found in the taiga include oak, birch, willow, and alder trees. The taiga does not feature a wide variety of plant life in comparison with other biomes due to its harsh climate; thin, acidic, and nutrient-lacking soil; and rocky terrain.
The rainforest is rained on constantly and experiences very warm temperatures, allowing for a profusion of animals and plants. The energy that is received is from the sun, converted to chemical energy by plants through photosynthesis. The process of photosynthesis is a source of food for consumers and produces oxygen for organisms. Producers of the Amazon would be plants, flowers, fruits, leaves, plankton, insects, larvae, and spiders. For example, A lot of water is released from the leaves of canopy trees during transpiration which explains the rainfall. The seeds and leaves feed many species of consumers. The trees are extremely tall and trap about 80% of sunlight. Many plants and animals live in or on the marsh grass surface because its roots and stalks protect them.
Tropical rainforests are an extremely unique and diverse ecosystem that are located around the earth’s equator. They once covered roughly 7% of the world, but due to human encroachment that has dwindled to just 2%. It is a highly moisture rich environment that typically receives anywhere between 60 and 400 inches of rainfall annually and average humidity ranges from 70 to 90%. A high average year round temperature, coupled with the moisture rich environment, creates an ecosystem that allows for a level of biodiversity seen nowhere else on the planet. This also results in a specific type of layering design that allows the system to survive and recycle its nutrients.
Many trees house other plants within their branches. Our Myrtle Oak tree has a symbiotic relationship with the Tillandsia air plant. The Tillandsia species are epiphytes or air plants because they normally grow without soil while being attached to another plant. (MacCaskey) This type of plant has no need for soil because its source of water and nutrients are absorbed through their leaves. The leaves are long and whip-like in shape with a silvery green
The Yasuni National Park possesses very diverse rainforest which significantly impact how the ecosystem functions; yet the the processes of disturbance and succession greatly affect them ("Yasuni National Park, Ecuador", "Ecuador Yasuni ITT Trust Fund" ). Just one hectare of the park contains more species of trees and bushes than all of North America ("Foreseeable Impacts of Oil Industry Activity in Yasuní")! There are a staggering 1762 species of trees and shrubs that have been identified in Yasuni, and approximately 400 of them are inherent to the region (“Foreseeable”). Hundreds of the plants in the previously untouchable zones have not even been classified or studied in depth (“Foreseeable”). The park is also paradise to a multitude of animal...
Thesis: Forests provide the earth with a regulated climate, strong biodiversity, and good nutrient rich soil for plants to strive on.
Regarding alternative voices given in Three Billboards, with Mildred as a woman of rage and featuring supporting characters of color standing up against the injustices of the town’s law enforcement, McDonagh neatly establishes the narrative as the marginalized, fighting “against the emblems of the white male patriarchy” (Phillips). Indeed, the billboards represent grief that Mildred has weaponized as “a means of taking on the law and assorted men,” including a threatening stranger, a vigilante dentist, and an abusive ex-husband, who “collectively suggest another wall that has closed Mildred in” (Dargis). Dixon is infamously known as the police officer who tortured a black man in custody, and the marginalized population of Ebbing had been simmering
The nature preserve is a temperate broadleaf forest, which is typically a diverse area. This terrestrial biome is found mainly at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere. Temperate Broadleaf forests happen to have a distinct set of vertical layers, including a closed canopy,
Tropical rainforests which is located between tropic of Capricorn and tropic of Cancer covered 12% of land surface few thousand years ago. However, today they o...
The tundra is known for its’ cold temperatures, but also its’ limited plant species. The growth of the vegetation is primarily low to the ground and the biomass of plants is concentrated in the roots. Here the plants reproduce more likely by division and building than by flower pollination. Some of that growthforms that you will find in the tundra include tussock, mats or cushion plants, rosettes, and dwarf shru...
Covering almost 2% of Earth, the rainforest is home to around 50% of Earth's plants and animals. The most common animals are, jaguars, many different types of monkeys like apes, spider monkeys, orangutans and so on, as well as multiple types of butterflies like the, blue morpho, monarch butterflies. Other common animals in a tropical rainforest is capybara, toco toucan, anaconda, python, poisonous dart frog as well as many others. Then to go along with all these consumers, there has to be producers. The common producers that you could find in a tropical rainforest is, banana trees, cocoa trees, orchids, victoria amazonica lilly pads, fig trees, palm trees, and many, many more. And with all these producers and consumers, there is definitely many symbiotic relationships in the rainforest. Most of the symbiotic relationships are commensalism and mutualism. I say mutualism because for example, when a monkey goes and gets banas frem and banana tree, the monkey is benefiting by getting the food it needs. Then when the monkey is done with the banana they throw it back to the forest where then it is decomposed into the ground to make fertile soil so more banana trees can
The global ecosystem is one of the epicenters for human needs, society and our environment. A forest ecosystem is an area that is composed of several plants, trees and other organisms. Majority of the foundation of forest ecosystems are inhabited by animals. Forest have several definitions, and meanings such as rainforest. Rainforest are mostly composed of trees, plants and animals that thrive off of these resources. Moreover, some of the needs that we have as humans come from forest. In order for one to understand how a forest ecosystem works they must analyze each portion from top to bottom. Every layer plays an important role in regards to human needs, society and our environment.
