What is a Hero? A Hero is a person who is admired or idealized by outstanding achievement, and noble qualities. Beowulf shows all these qualities throughout the story. He shows that he is a great man by always putting other things before his own needs. He is a very important person and is important to people. He is known for his strength, bravery, and a helpful person. He talks about how great he is throughout the story, but in the end they truly realize how great he is. Strength is what Beowulf is very known for. It is shown several times in the story. Beowulf was aid to have “ the strength of thirty men in his mighty hand grip”. Another trait that makes Beowulf a great hero is his willingness to put others before himself. When he fought with the fire breathing Dragon, he risked his own life to save others.The people were very thankful for him and believed he should be glorified. Beowulf shows hislove for people when he says, “This is not your, nor is it up to any man except me to measure his strength against the monster or to prove his worth. I shall win the gold by my courage, or else mortal combat, doom of battle, will bear your lord away”. Bravery is an important trait that Beowulf shows a lot of in the story. An example is when he defeated sea monsters in the ocean. When he says, “A monster seized me, drew me swiftly toward the bottom, swimming with its claws tight in my flesh. But fate let me find its heart with my sword, hack myself free; I fought that beasts last battle, left it floating lifeless in the sea”.This is just one of the many brave deeds Beowulf accomplished during the
