The Beowulf poem is an interesting epic to study because it allows the reader to be educated on the culture and thinking of early Anglo-Saxon people. In this epic/heroic poem Beowulf is a strong courageous warrior who presumably could take on anything and oppose his will against them. This is seen in the poem when Beowulf slays Grendel, Grendel’s mother and also the Dragon. He was almost like a superhuman in the fact that his heroic status was already solidified even before his battles with these villains. Beowulf was looked up to as a protector and savior in the sense that he helped save people’s lives and families by defeating his evil foes. My answer to that question would be no simply because of the differences in embodiment and morals for wanting to help people. Jesus Christ was the only person to ever walk the earth who never committed a sin. While Beowulf was a great and mighty warrior he was a sinner and not a sinless man like Jesus Christ. Furthermore, Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary to wash people’s sins away with his blood that he shed on the cross. He did this in humility and he knew his death was near, but he knew it was something that had to be done. In contrast, Beowulf was also aware of his death that was near and he was still willing to die in battle to save his people and land from destruction. In both of these cases each knew exactly what had to happen to save their people lives. However, the main difference is that Jesus Christ died as a humble innocent man that accepted injustice to reconnect people back to God. The distinction between the two is that Beowulf was willing to put his life on the line not only for his people but also for his own name and glory. His actions were based on different intentions that were more focused on himself and his heroic code which is evident throughout the whole
