The standards of consumption for people at present are growing rapidly in Sydney. Due to its great enhancement of consuming level, it attracts many transnational retail corporations enter into the market. However, short shopping hours in Sydney become a problem, usually around 8hours per day. Thus, extending shopping hours may bring some benefits. Although there are many critics who argue against the benefits, it cannot be denied that more shopping hours is necessary for the development of the city, since it brings convenience in life, growth of the economy and image of Sydney as an international metropolis.
Extending shopping time is beneficial because it make the life more convenient. Consumers are more untrammeled to do shopping because

Workers are necessary to work for longer hours as the business is open until that time. For some workers, this is necessary as they need more money to improve their lives especially if they have many children. Longer shopping hours leads to more consumption. Consumption is one of the most significant parts of the whole economy as it encouraged the business to produce or to sell goods and services. As the level of consumption increases, the wages or salaries for the workers may increase as well due to their good performance at their work. High level of consumption benefits the business because the business can make profit and push the economy further. Due to the increase in profit, they are more willing to produce and sell; therefore, they may provide more job opportunities in the labour market. Employment usually increases after better shopping hours are introduced. According to this, the employment rate increases and there will be higher levels of household income and consumption. Evidence from the rest of Australia and overseas shows that extended shopping hours increased economic activity levels to more jobs across the economy. Although an Acnielsen survey published that 51% of male and 44% of female believe that work hours determine their sleep schedules, the workers need to work to shoulder their family. Even though the business may be greedy to sacrifice the public garden in order to build more shopping malls to make profits, maybe such cases are rare because of the government. Extending shopping time benefits both workers and business to increase their revenue and improve their life
For the Italian Centre Shop their hours consist of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, and closed on Major holidays throughout the year (Spinelli, 2016). These hours compare to other grocery stores as they stay open 24/7. The hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. prevent individuals to finish their grocery shopping as they tend to work later hours. Usually, a grocery store would open earlier as well, so this averts consumers from going earlier in the day to pick up the needed necessities. Another weakness, that is looked upon to be difficult of the Italian Centre Shops’ consumers, is the parking. Especially for branch located in North Edmonton, this is seen to be problematic as there is an abundance of traffic which can be extremely hard to navigate
Best Buy operates in an oligopolistic market where there are significant barriers to entry and few large firms dominate the market by selling identical goods. Best Buy is a non-collusive oligopolist, existing in a strategic environment where firms do not cooperate, yet are interdependent due to the fact that a firm’s action affects the market. Recently, Best Buy experienced an increase in demand, increasing its revenues and profits.
Chain stores, such as K-Mart and Wal-Mart swing their doors wide for all deal seekers at around 6 a.m. Individuals will wake up earlier than necessary, drive to these stores, and camp out prior to the stores opening, if only just to ensure they get the best spot in line. Also near this time, various online deals begin. This means before many people wake up on Thanksgiving morning, sales have already started both in store and online. By this standard, the day’s workers have to get to the store hours before it opens to prepare the store for the surplus of people and the chaos that will soon enfold. People should be getting rest or preparing food for their lunches or dinners, but instead they are shopping or working. Retailers place priority on shopping from the moment people wake up until they go to sleep. There is never an emphasis on family throughout the entire day in these chain stores. The madness occurs throughout the entirety of both days, causing lack of family time in both days of the holiday for patrons and
The data have shown customers’ interest; the retailers can serve their customers more effective when they know what their customer want. The product will catch customers’ attention because they know where exactly to put it. That lead to more product being sales and more money being generated. According to the video “How store track your shopping behavior”, from the study of men’s habit of shopping, they know how to get men pay attention to their products. They change it up a little bit and get a really interesting result:”85% increase in product touch, 44% increase in sales, and 38% increase in dollar sales”; that is huge increase numbers. That number show how impactful the study effects their business performances. It is the result of understanding their customers’ need and desire. The ultimate goal is to increase product sales. They have to depend on the customer to reach that goal. Making the customer feel comfortable and encourage them to buy more goods is a process toward that
Whenever we go out shopping or relaxing at malls, we actually don’t see or recognize any effects of malls as we mostly go there for these two reasons. Malls are an integral part in the lives of America. They are shopping centers that have created a lot of buzz in many writers. This is because we have more malls in America than high schools. Malls have received praises from people like James J. Farrell, Jon Pahl and George Lewis who view malls as not only shopping centers but also as places that provide a reflection of the American culture and serve as centers of pleasure and entertainment. In contrast, William Kowinski and David Gutterson criticize malls for just being an artificial environment that creates disorientation among American shoppers. In my opinion, malls are just magnificent commercial buildings that create a sense of false dreams and imagination.
As the majority of parents work longer hours then other parents did in the past to
Shift Work: The introduction of shift work mainly depends on safety and productivity of the workers being maintained. However, evidence suggests that safety and productivity of workers may decline at night shifts with more hours on duty between breaks. The shift work system can be improved by introducing more rest breaks (Folkard & Tucker 2003).
With the rise of the economy, more people are spending their time buying merchandise from consumer markets even though it’s a proven fact that people today have less time on their hands than people in the past. In the 21st century time is spent at school and/or work. In the past, there was a lot more time in the hands of individuals. Women spent their time at home taking care of the children, cleaning, and cooking. Men spent majority of their time at work and doing the brunt work. Children spent their days at school and/ or helping their parent depending on the gender of the child. Their free time was spent with family and friends. Not much time was spent shopping unlike today. Whenever society today has leisure time we spend that time making sure we look decent and spending the money to do so. In the case of the leisure time spent on South Street families often spend their free time adventuring over at Magic
Every minutes saved means less time waiting and more satisfaction to the customers. This would also encourage a first time buyer to become repeat customers.
When comparing two different ways of shopping most people do not even think about, they do both and not even realize it. In today?s society people shop while at work, after work and on the weekends, whenever time permits. Did you ever stop and think how can I get more time in the day for family or just myself? The best way to figure out with all the recourses we have; still most of us go into a store and spend time looking through racks and waiting in endless line to just purchase something. I compared going into a store verses online shopping; to see which on will save you time and money.

The main advantage of online shopping is convenient. Online shops open 24/7. People who live in remote areas do not need to speed long time on the traveling to the stores. Consumers who come from other cities/countries can easily buy the native and specialty goods by just a click instead of going to that cities/countries themselves. The relevant information of products can be received from any location in seconds. Study showed that 72% of online shoppers preferred surf online than go to retail store to attain information about a product (Lokken et al., 2003). Online shopping also has greater price information (as cited...
Places such as coffee shops and lounges have been included in the structures of these malls to give consumers a more comfortable feeling of relaxation. Instead of shopping and leaving people are more enticed to sit back and relax. Enjoying a meal and a cup of coffee while shopping has become a time consuming yet enjoyable process for most shoppers. It's suggested that the longer a person stays the more money they are bound to spend. Mall managers and scientist are not attempting to manipulate the consumer but more so enhance their shopping experience. There's also a sense of creativity and connectivity found in calming environments such as coffee shops that establishments like shopping malls are trying to bring to the shopping
In order to get an initial understanding of the driving forces of second-hand shopping, the existing literature about what guides consumer behaviour must first be studied. Thus, this literature review deals with theory concerning consumption behavior, in particular, motivations because motivations is the reason for behaviour (Hawkins, Best & Coney, 2004, p.355. Motivations is the why people do something, so in order to understand why consumers shop, examining underlying motivations is crucial. Already in 1985 - after discussing several quite diverse studies about shopping orientations towards shopping or shopping typologies - did two authors suggest that examining motivations underlying shopping behavior would offer a better conceptual framework
The Internet is rapidly becoming widespread and widely used as a tool for globalization across the world. As the Internet became more easily accessible by most people in the world, the web is bringing significant implications and changes to the way we live, including the way we shop. There is a rapid growth with e-commerce and moving businesses onto the web and retail success is no longer about stores and shopping centers. In developed countries, about two thirds of the population have access to the Internet making the option of online shopping is easily accessible to most people (Valerio). With the ease of shopping in your own home there are many benefits of doing your shopping online. Consumers can easily compare prices online, there is a larger range of products on the web, you can save time by having your shopping delivered right to your doorstep and it also overcomes physical barriers. Over the last decade online shopping has challenged and replaced the traditional means of physically going into shops as the digital world has provided customers with further convenience, flexibility and comfort from shopping from your own home.
