Hey faggot, you are homo! You are such a queer. Do not bother coming to school tomorrow. You are going to burn in hell. Those hateful statements I just made are minuscule fraction about Lawrence King every single day at school. Larry as he like to be called is a 15 year old boy who live and went to school in California. He is not your typical 15 year old as Larry was openly gay. The school that Larry attended was very liberal about how Larry chose to express himself. Several days before February 14th Valentine’s day, Larry asked one of his classmates, Brandon Mcinerney, to be his valentine. He did this in front of Brandon’s friends, who later on teased Brandon regarding of the situation. On February 12, Larry was shot twice in the head by Brandon. …show more content…
This harsh and homophobic world makes it a struggle for the LGBT to live their lives like others. The most widely used statistic is that 1 out of 10 people are gay or lesbian. There’s about 24 people in this class, am I right? So, there will be at least 2 that are gay, technically. Let’s say one of your friend was gay, will you hate them for it? Will you be the person who translate those hatred to your friend just because he or she is homosexual? Will you be the so-called “friend”? According to a survey titled Youth Chances in 2014, young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people have higher possibility to suffer from suicidal thoughts compared to their straight friends. The result has shown that 42% of young LGBT sought medical help for depression or anxiety, 52% report self-harm and 44% have considered suicide. According to National Coalition of Anti-Violence programs in 2015, a record of 14 homicides has been reported this year. There are three reasons why Malaysian law should be revamped to accept LGBT and their lifestyle into mainstream society are genetic factors, human rights and societal …show more content…
Same sex marriages can bring financial gain to the government and could help in boosting the economy. Government revenue from marriage originated from the marriage licenses, higher income taxes on marriage penalty and reduces the cost of state benefit programs. According to Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn in 2012, announced that gay marriage in New York City had contributed $259 million to the city’s economy after same sex marriages are being legalized. Besides that, there would be a decrease in the rate of suicidal when the society could accept them for who they are. By accepting the, they negative attitudes towards LGBT people will reduce and this could help them to avoid being exposed to violence like bullying, teasing, physical assault and suicide related
Throughout our lives, we carry and value our own beliefs. As we face different challenges, we may be persuaded into making certain choices. However, no matter how convincing a person may be, in the end we always have the last word. Nobody likes being told what to do but we do like to hear other opinions for a different perspective. The proper way of using rhetoric is through a confident tone that is knowledgeable of their topic. The speaker should have integrity and be selfless in the sense that they are understanding towards their audience.

Ever since the fall, mankind has had a voracious desire for power and influence. People witness this desire within the walls of the Capitol Building when the media exposes backroom deals. It also springs up whenever a politician uses a podium to persuade people that he makes the world work. Politicians possibly rely on persuasion because they crave the power. However, persuasion is a manipulative, unBiblical tactic of forcing others to accept a point of view by all means necessary.
They also experience prejudice in the work force. Data has shown that it is possible that if members of the LGBT community are open about their sexuality they could be declined a job, or can be judged by their co workers. Discrimination within schools have caused a big issue on bullying which is leading many young people to take drastic measures such as suicide to end the harassments and violence they experience. Studies have concluded that over thirty percent of all suicides are related in way or another to sexu...
Despite there being many reasons as to why people discriminate homosexuals, the most popular ones are due to their religion or cultural norm. They include acts of verbal and physical abuse towards individuals who are homosexual. For those who are homosexuals, they are verbally abused by name calling such as fag, homo or sissy more than two dozen a day. There was a survey conducted by Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network and found that 86 percent of LGBT teens are being harassed at school in 2007. In 2013, 82 percent of teens had problems from previous year with bullying about sexual orientation. 64 percent felt unsafe at school and 32 percent did no go to school because of feeling unsafe. Even as an adult homosexual are attacked verbally.
It is very reasonable to conclude that research on depression of those who identify as gay, lesbian or transsexual is not accurate; there is an underreporting of people who identify as these sexual orientations because of the fear of being different. It is understood that those apart of the LGBTQ community actively hide their identity in hopes to avoid being rejected or abused (Bird, 2013). Once the reporting issue of having a smaller percentage of the actual representation of the LGBTQ population is put aside, there is evidence that highly suggests that lesbians and gay men are at higher risk for psychiatric disorders than heterosexuals (Cochran, 2001). Even after underreporting, there is still enough information to conclude that sexual discrimination can have harmful effects on the quality of life. Common factors that have been observed in lesbians and gays that can potentially increase depression during Cochran's study are anxiety and mood disorders and decreased self esteem. Cochran and her partner also noted that dissatisfaction with how one is treated beca...
The number of gays and lesbians in the U.S. is estimated to be approximately 8.8 million (randomhistory.com) About thirty-three percent of Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender commit suicide each year. At least fifty-two percent self-harm (dosomethinng.com). Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender are mistreated and misunderstood. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender are treated inhumanely which causes them to go into a deep depression, self-harm, or even commit suicide. LGBT are humans, not just some creature from another world (personal).
For years, attitudes toward homosexuality have varied considerably. Though there has been an increase in approval of homosexuality around the world, there are still individuals with homophobic attitudes. Unfortunately, homophobia is common and often plays a significant role in the lives of many homosexuals, lesbians, and bisexuals. The most extreme form of homophobia is revealed in hate crimes. Hate crimes include assault, robbery, and murder committed because the victim belongs to a certain race, religion, or ethnic group or has a certain sexual orientation (Crooks & Baur, 2013).
The mental health of individuals in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community is something that is a serious problem. For most of the history of the United States and many different parts of the world LGBT people faced much persecution and in some cases even death. This constant fear of discovery and the pressure that one feels on oneself when “in the closet” can lead to major mental distress. Research has shown that people who identify as LGBT are twice as likely to develop lifetime mood and anxiety disorders (Bostwick 468). This is extremely noticeable the past couple years in the suicides of bullied teens on the basis of sexual identity and expression. The stigma on simply being perceived as LGBT is strong enough to cause a person enough mental stress that they would take their own life. This is always unfortunate, but in the case of young individuals it borders on unthinkable. Older LGBT individuals do not tend to fair much better either seeing as they were raised in generations who were stricter on what was considered proper and morally right. All this being said, even as the culture of the world shifts to more accepting LGBT individuals their mental health is something that is only now being looked at thoroughly.
Furthermore, it is now understood that these damaging health consequences impact LGBTQ youth, a population already more vulnerable to health disparities, in higher rates, significantly impacting their quality of life. Besides the physical injuries that can be sustained during violent bullying, these effects can be manifested as psychosocial and psychosomatic. LGBTQ youth who are victims of bullying experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, as well as higher rates of substance use/abuse (Earnshaw et al., 2017; Earnshaw et al., 2016; Vessey et al., 2013). According to the APHA (2014), in 2013, 32.2% LGBTQ youth reported suicidal thoughts (compared to 11.7% non-LGBTQ youth) and 22.8% reported attempts to end their lives (6.6% non-LGBTQ youth). Additionally, 4% of males and 28% of female LGBTQ identifying youth described severe depressive symptoms, versus the 8% national average (APHA, 2014). Research shows that bullying during childhood alters biological mechanisms, such as the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, telomere growth, and immunologic functions. This is evident in the wide range of physical and psychosomatic symptoms depicted by victims, not present prior: gastrointestinal distress, headaches, decreased appetite, sleeping alterations, sore throats, cough, and hypertension (Earnshaw et al., 2016; Earnshaw et al., 2016; Vessey et al., 2013). The negative sequela are not limited to childhood, as LGBTQ victims as adults endure increased rates of posttraumatic stress disorder, depressive symptoms, high risk behaviors, and lower life satisfaction (Earnshaw et al.,
“What’s the big whoop?” asks a cute, blonde, elementary school-aged boy when his teacher discusses homosexuality. He didn’t understand why people cared about who other people loved. Little kids are perfect examples of how society’s negativity towards homosexuality creates homophobia. Children don’t understand why it matters who they love because they don’t see it as a problem and their opinions aren’t clouded by stereotypes. If LGBT issues were taught to these innocent, uninvolved children in elementary school, it would be more likely they would be accepted as they grew up.

We believe that Violence and hate against homosexuality need to diminish severely. Gay bashing, gay bullying, and hate crime is very popular when it comes to hating on homosexual people. LGBT people of all ages die every year, whether caused by suicide, injury or homicide. From 1999-2010, the Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention program says that suicide is the 3rd leading cause (4,600 deaths) of death among young people ages 15 to 24. In 2011 there were 1,572 victims that received hate crimes based on sexual orientation. In an article on PBS, written by a woman named Karen Franklin, a description of an interview with a man called Brian states that him and his ...
Throughout the years, bullying has become a significant reason for teenagers to become depressed or even suicidal. It does not matter what the teen is being discriminated against, whether it be their race, what they believe in, or who they love. When it comes to homosexuality, “one in three are under 18 who commit hate crimes” (D...
Over the last years the topic of same-sex marriage has been of great importance to our society. The idea of the same gender being lawfully married is disturbing to a group of people but in the recent years the number of supporters has increased. The cases that argue for the legalization of same-sex marriage are focusing on the relationship of the individuals and do not see anything in same-sex marriage that could harm our society as a whole. The article “How the President go to ‘I Do’ on Same-Sex Marriage,” published by Joe Becker in April 2014, explains how Barack Obama started saying that he was undecided about the subject matter but is now leaning toward the legalization of same-sex marriage. The subject matter takes a lot of analyzing of what pros and cons are to come from the legalization of same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage is a global argument that deals with unifying two individuals of the same gender under the law. The main reason that supporters give for justifying same-sex marriage is that it is for the same reason as straight people, to show love and commitment to each other. Furthermore, the argument of same-sex marriage is difficult to generalize because of the multiple factors that need to be taken in consideration when making any decision regarding this topic. Although Becker does have true premises, he lacks clarity in his terms which make his argument be false and invalid.
