Beethoven’s fifth symphony is the piece which I will be completing my critical analysis on. To begin, there are many different types of classical form in music. This particular piece would be considered under the Sonata Form. The Sonata Form which is also known as sonata-allegro form is a form of organization that is based on contrasting the composer’s musical ideas. The pieces contain three main sections which are exposition, development, and recapitulation. Occasionally it can include an optional section which is a coda that would be placed at the end of the piece. The composer of this piece was Ludwig van Beethoven, who was a German composer, and a very notable musical figure between the Classical and Romantic era. This specific piece premiered with the Sixth symphony at his “Marathon” concert in December of 1808. This concert was dedicated to Prince Lobkowitz, and Count Andreas Rasumovsky. The Fifth Symphony was specifically associated with Beethoven’s life and musical style; this took many audiences time to make these associations. Throughout Beethoven’s fifth symphony the dynamics remind me of a roller coaster. It begins loudly, which seems to be delivered by the string section, brass, and woodwinds. Shortly after a very soft entry of other strings contrasting with the loud in your face entry it begins with. Throughout the whole song as I said it is like a roller coaster the dynamic is always fluctuating. There are many sharp, short, loud notes, but also many Crescendo’s and Decrescendo’s throughout the song. The layout throughout the song seems very sophisticated which is expected since it was created by such an accomplished composer. As I previously said there is one major message throughout the song, it is to get the point of Beethoven’s life and Musical Style across. It was meant to get the point of his life accomplishment’s and struggles to his audience. Giving them a glimpse into the life he had lived, whether good or bad, you can see this through many crescendos throughout the song, showing his rage. Rage is not the only emotion that is coming through there was also areas of enthusiasm shown. The way the music piece was developed and written got all these points through to the audience very
