Battlefield 1 is called a realistic game. Its been praised for its realism and accuracy when it comes to the mechanics of an actual real-life battlefield. Some people would even go as far as to say that it’s on par with a real-life simulation, like you’re in the soldiers’ boots running around with a weapon. To an extent they’re right. Hell, I feel like it’s a realistic game majority of the time, but it does have its faults.
So, Battlefield has been worshipped for its’ realism. It very accurately captures the feeling of WW1 as much as a video game can. The environment; being in the trenches with bullets flying overhead and mortars hitting the ground around you and the tanks and planes flying overhead. It takes factors from real life combat that concern firing a weapon such as wind resistance and bullet drop. Depending on how far you are from your target and how hard the wind is blowing in the game depends on how and where your bullet will land. You also must adjust your gun in game, during combat, which is also a very realistic trait. Wes Fenlon, a writer for PCGamer.com, did an interview with a war historian, John Casey. Casey compared the weapons and tactics of Battlefield to real life war. Casey said that the weapons in Battlefield look real, but the way they’re used is unrealistic. Some weapons were missing components and some were prototypes that were not even used in wars. He even pointed out that most guns would jam back then, whereas in game, they don’t whatsoever. Some guns weren’t operated right. There was one gun called the Lewis which was highly exaggerated when being reloaded. Casey states, “On the Lewis gun they were taking that snail magazine and just popping it on and off. If that’s that easy to pop it off, he’d just smack it back into place, I suppose if you did that enough you could do that, but it seems like there’d be a little more time spent to make …show more content…

Buildings blow up upon impact with tank rounds or dynamite charges. Mini craters are left in the ground from bombs dropped from bomber planes and jets. There’s an unrealistic aspect concerning tanks. If a bomb from a plane hits a tank, it should explode. They don’t though. They keep moving like nothing happened. Huge obstacles come down if enough explosions connect with them, or if they’re hit in the right
