My project is about the history of baseball in California, I chose this project because I like baseball. I like this project because it is a sport that I have a passion for. Baseball has an impact on the economy. How did baseball become a major sport in California how did it affect California? The local economy benefits from a major professional sports team that benefits from different sources. a local sports team benefits from audience tickets, selling sporting goods like(hats, jerseys, ext.) They also benefit from the concession stand to sell (hot dogs, beer, popcorn, peanuts)also selling meals.they also benefit when sports fans travel. Another big reason they benefit is when players get paid
they have to pay tax. Baseball is a very known sport, it became a major league sport in 1869, the first professional team was the Cincinnati Red Stockings(not MLB).in The MLB was founded in 1903 the first professional baseball team in California was the Los Angeles Angels and they were playing under the pacific coast league from 1903-1957.There is 29 baseball team in the united states and one team in Canada The Toronto blue jays are the only team located outside the U.S. The first World Series was played between Pittsburgh and Boston in 1903 and was a nine-game series. Boston won the series 5-3. Baseball made an impact on California because it brought fans to different places.opened up more career opportunities for further stars. Helped bring more teams to the sport.A major thing that has had an effect is the percentage of ethnicities who play, in 1947 98.3 % od baseball players were white,0.9% of baseball player were African-American, 0.7 % were location and there was 0.0%asin. In 2016, the percent of white people playing baseball have significantly dropped, 63.7 % are white people,6.7%are African American,27.4%are location, 2.1 are in. I feel like that is a very big change and that is another huge affect. It had on places
Baseball has been of the longest living sports in our world today. The game started with the idea of a stick and ball and now has become one of the most complex sports known in our society. Several rules and regulations have been added to help enhance the game for everyone. Although baseball has endured several issues during its history and development of the game the game has still been a success throughout the world.
To explain the importance a sports team has on a city, a new avenue for future
A) Main Point 1 Topic sentence (History of Baseball): First I'll explain the origin of baseball, growth, and baseball today.
Throughout the years sports have become more popular in our society. The average American watches at least one of the major sports if not more, but how do these professional sports affect our economy? Many believe that they can bring more profit and jobs to an economy, but is that really the case, or do taxpayers spend a lot of money for a sports team that does not draw in the revenue it is suppose to?
"Over the decades, African American teams played 445-recorded games against white teams, winning sixty-one percent of them." (Conrads, pg.8) The Negro Leagues were an alternative baseball group for African American baseball player that were denied the right to play with the white baseball payers in the Major League Baseball Association. In 1920, the first African American League was formed, and that paved the way for numerous African American innovation and movements. Fences, and Jackie Robinson: The Biography, raises consciousness about the baseball players that have been overlooked, and the struggle they had to endure simply because of their color.
Baseball players chose to sacrifice their careers by fighting for their own country for many years. Over 4,500 baseball players traded their baseball uniforms for a military uniform during the time of World War 2. Throughout the years, baseball has changed how americans acted in war, and how baseball has gotten people through tough times. Over the years, baseball players have gone to war, won a war, and while they were gone organizations like the AAGPBL started, and many of the baseball rules have changed. Also things like the Black Sox Scandal happened during the World War 1.
I chose to explore the Negro Baseball League to form an understanding of how the league was formed, the league's economic and social impact on the African American communities, and on the United States of America. In this paper, I will explore this tremendous impact that has forever changed the American culture, views and attitudes. This exploration will consist of reviewing different documented sources from players, fans and historians. Through these documented resources, I will also research was caused the gradual decline and eventual fall of the Negro Baseball League.
The way they can make money, is if fans come out to watch games, buy drinks, food, memorabilia, etc. There are a lot of “bandwagon” fans in all sports. In baseball the biggest bandwagon team is the New York Yankees. That is huge for the Yankees, because fans are how teams can earn money. Which also might be why the Yankees are the richest team in the game. Teams can sign star players and still earn money from it. For example, right after the Texas Rangers signed Alex Rodriguez to a long term deal, ticket sales started to go up. “The organization sold 400 season ticket packages. By comparison, it had sold only 74 ticket packages by January of the previous year” (Deschiver). There is a positive relationship between star players and attendance, regardless of how the team is doing.“This is because some spectators may be attracted to the celebrity quality of a team’s players rather than the team’s reputation of a playoff contender” (Deschiver). The small market teams could have a good run at a World Series title, then they could bring in more fans, which leads to more money. “A close pennant race
EPIC is the Educational Participation in Communities. This organization involves students as volunteers in the fight against poverty and social neglect in local communities. The goal is social awareness and student involvement. It says that poverty, neglect, and social inequity are a growing reality for millions of people in America. Families are losing their homes, people can't find good jobs, children go hungry, and education in the inner-city is a disaster. There is a is problem because the public and community programs that serve as a safety net to assist such populations are strained beyond their capacity and are usually understaffed and under-funded. Since they cannot do the job without help, EPIC helps. It recruits college students to do volunteer work in schools, hospitals, community centers, legal aid, probation, youth agencies, and other and public service programs. EPIC volunteers provide thousands of volunteer hours to the community.
Baseball, in the 1940s, was not an integrated sport, but rather followed a separate but equal policy. While the white players got paid a lot of money to play in the Major Leagues, the sometimes superior black players were left to play in the Negro Leagues, which did not pay as well. Many of these players gained notoriety through this league, such as Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson. While their records beat numerous of the white players records, racism was too bad to justify integrating the Major Leagues without someone who would not fight the callous abuse that was sure to come their way. One man was successful in finding the right man to play. Branch Rickey made baseball history by signing a black player to the Dodgers in 1947. The Negro League star players questioned his choice in players, but ultimately Rickey made the right decision by signing Jackie Robinson.

The Desegregation of baseball in America was a slow process. Near the end of the 1800's, African American ballplayers were accepted in the Major Leagues, but as their success grew, they were quickly banned from the league. For the fifty-year period that there were no blacks in the Major Leagues, the Negro Leagues were where black ballplayers competed. The Negro Leagues grew and many stars emerged from the leagues that now have a legendary status. When Jackie Robinson joined the Major Leagues in 1954, baseball was once again desegregated (Sailer). The complete integration of the league was not as rapid as many would have expected. Economic reasons seemed to be the main reason why African Americans were brought back into the Major Leagues but there were other factors that contributed.
The sports industry is a very big business that contributes great amounts to the economy in terms of turnover, taxes and jobs. The sports industry has an economic cycle. So it depends on different parts of the year to hold big events. The benefits to be gained are that local communities as suppliers of services and goods obtain increased business.
Sports are one of the most profitable industries in the world. Everyone wants to get their hands on a piece of the action. Those individuals and industries that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on these sports teams are hoping to make a profit, but it may be an indirect profit. It could be a profit for the sports club, or it could be a promotion for another organization (i.e. Rupert Murdoch, FOX). The economics involved with sports have drastically changed over the last ten years.
While sports for the spectators are merely entertainment, the economics of the industry are what drives businesses to become involved. Sports have become more of a business entity rather than an entertainment industry due to the strong economic perception of the over all industry. There are several instances in which economics may contribute to the effect on the sports industry, such as: the success of a team, the price of a ticket, the amount of money an athlete will make, and the amount of profit a team will make. The success of an...
