In an era of extreme conflict and violence in the world, harmony can seem to be nearly impossible to find. Christians, Muslims, and Jews battle each other day after day in wars that have lasted for generations, which can make religious differences seem impossible to overcome. However, Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Baha’i faith, reminds us that “Ye are all the leaves of one tree and the drops of one ocean” (“What Bahá'ís Believe.” Bahai.org). This quote illustrates the main principle of the Baha’i faith, unity, and harmony among all. The Baha’i faith has a fascinating and unique history, principles, and ways to show devotion; although its followers strive to promote peace, they is discriminated against in some regions of the world.

We have records of what was happening on a global scale during the time of its foundation. Its origins can be traced back to Iran in 1844 when it emerged from Shia Islam. A man known as The Báb claimed that a new prophet would be coming soon. This prophet would be a continuation of the line of prophets that includes Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad. This proclamation led to the persecution of him and his followers because of the fact that Islam believes the Muhammad is the final prophet. Although The Báb technically started the Baha’i faith, he is the founder because “in 1852, one of the Báb's persecuted followers had a revelation in prison that he was the prophet that the Báb had proclaimed. He called himself Bahá'u'lláh, meaning The Glory of God” (“Religions...). Bahá’u’lláh is considered to be the founder of the Baha’i faith. Through the remainder of his life, he was …show more content…
This is quite fascinating because it is the polar opposite of what they believe in. They are discriminated against while they stand for equality and justice. This discrimination and hate is especially prevalent in Iran. Because Iran is an Islamic Republic, the government is intolerant of different religions, particularly those that contradict Islam. One government official denounced that “‘friendly relations’ with Baha’is as ‘treason against Islam and the Revolution’ while another warned that ‘consorting with Baha’is and friendship with them is against the teachings of Islam’” (Akhavan). The Baha’i Faith contradicts Islam because Baha’is do not believe that Muhammad was the last prophet or revelation of God which is a core concept in Islam. Even though they do not call the religion out as being wrong in their beliefs (it is just an incomplete view of the entirety of God), it is enough for them to be persecuted. With this much hatred in society, it is difficult to maintain order. Based on the state that America is currently in, we must learn from the effects of widespread hatred in other countries. This can help us reduce the amount of hate in America to prevent us from reaching such an extreme
As ancient Rome began to fall, Christianity began rising. Around 2,000 years ago, Jesus of Nazareth was born, later to be known as the Messiah or Son of God. When people of the Roman era began to hear of such a powerful being, they began to convert to Christianity. Why did Christianity take hold on the ancient world; Christianity took hold on the ancient world because it offered immortality, equality, and it was spread like wildfire.
When a group uses religious ideology to control a population, the religious texts, in the case the Qur’an, are usually interpreted to suit the agenda of the group, because “they have different values and beliefs”2. The reason that the texts are used and intentionally misinterpreted is fairly obvious. Iran, where 99% of the population is Muslim, coupled with the fact that Muslims believe that the Qur’an is the word of god, one who can...
Many people would not believe that worldview would be involved in the topic of work, but it certainly is. Worldview stretches throughout almost every facet of our lives and is even an intricate part of work. Christian and secular viewpoints differ immensely when it comes to work. Many Christians believe that work is an intricate part of God’s plan for mankind while the secular viewpoint sees it as more of a personal, everyday activity the serves no more of a purpose that that of personal success. The secular worldview has distorted the context of work and only the Christian worldview can redeem it to its original context.
Life is full of frustrations and confusion. There are times that questioning the purpose of one’s life to be living at all from their belief and faith in the one they believe. Christian Adherents are faced with these issues and are misguided by the loquacious talk of philosophers and scientists that seem to argue that the existence of human beings have been derived by something else other than God. These are illustrated through various forms of media and deem to be very convincing for most. However, there are people and ideas of the Christian Religion to comply back with what is said against it. Pope John XXIII was a significant role model for the Christian Religion as he showed true belief and faith to God through his deeds. Topics in debate of Bioethical issues are in question and the practices of the Christian belief are fact to the individual of the means of questioning the purpose here on Earth. Regarding the letter from Paul to the Corinthians, it says “Be on guard; stand firm in faith; be men of courage, be strong.” Its significance to believers is that they can be deceived in time of desperation and at times of hardship but God tells them to stay strong in faith and in courage no matter the distress they are facing.
Islam is the world's fastest growing faith. It all began in 610 C.E. when the Prophet Muhammad received revelations of the Quran in Mecca. Islam's reputation of promoting a strict and controlling government, female oppression, civil war, and terrorism is not completely correct. Islam is a rich and complex religion that is often misunderstood in the modern world. There have been many obstacles that have been faced. Islam wouldn't exist today with its leaders, the Crusades, and their empires.
Islam, on the other hand, started in Mecca, where Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) was born. He was believed to be that last nabi (messenger) that Allah will give to the world. The religion was not well accepted in its city of origin though, due to the opposition the Prophet faced as a nascent community . Later, he was invited to Medina and Islam expanded from there.
In a dark cave in the mountains, sparked a new, and wonderful religion that caused a chain of events. In 610 CE, a merchant retreated to his cave in the mountains to meditate when he saw a vision, the angel Gabriel, gave him the task from Allah to spread Islam, and he made it his goal to do that task. So, due to Islam’s vast trade routes and business, to their strong military, along with their political order, and there strong and mostly convincing messages that helped build and quickly spread Islamic Religion.
Of all the religions studied in this course, I can easily say that I could come to the belief that Baha’is have. To me, the Baha’is go beyond religion to try to bring more balance into society.
Christian faith and Ethos is the class I am taking this term. The professor 's name is Reverend Leroy Leach Jr. The class is about God, the creation, and how to read the Holy Bible.
On the Harmony of Religion and Philosophy gives us insight to the philosophical views of a certain sect of Islam, and how it influenced it 's followers to view the world around them. Although it is helpful, this is written from a very biased position and it cannot be said that the views of the author are the views of Muslim culture as a whole. There is a constant attack on another religious group throughout the article that helps us to understand what this specific sect deems right and wrong through comparison of the groups.
“The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892), is regarded by Bahá'ís as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Krishna, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad.” “The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bahá'u'lláh said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification.”
As I sit and reflect over my life, I ask myself where have I come from, where might I currently be, and what does the future hold for me according to my faith formation. This was a time for me to weigh the progress of my formation that happened over the years and to see the influential players who made it possible. Within this essay I will use two of James Fowler’s stages of faith to evaluate my own life and be able to see that through these stages I can be able to help develop others faith as well. It is through these stages that have shaped my life into becoming the faithful person that I am today.
...ethics, and so forth. The crucial piece of information to remember about this religion is that they greatly emphasis unity and have a great amount of diversity. Even though it is a diverse religion, all of the Muslims are monotheistic and solely believe that Allah is the creator of everything, including humans. As a human being they believe that they are in debt to God or simply stated as according to Seyyed Hossein Nasr, “Therefore, all that we are and all that we have belongs to God for which we are indebted to Him and for whose gifts we must give thanks (shukr)” . God is the Absolute and the main point of the Islamic religion is that it is crucial to worship him and follow his commands, and that will lead to peace among everyone. This particular religion has continued to rapidly grow throughout the world and as with most religions, it will continue to grow.
World Religions 110 has been such an amazing class to me. It will be hard to put into words how much I loved taking this class and learning about the different religions. Not only did we learn about religions, but also I feel we also learned about character, compassion, and actualization. Out of all the different topics to discuss, I feel the most important to me are: Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity.
It has been an outstanding five weeks. This was the course that I've been waiting to take since I started Capella back in April of 2004. Finally after weeks of reading World Religions by Huston Smith, I have developed an understanding of some of the world's religions. I can never be an expert in this field, and I don't want to, but at least I have an idea where these religions originated and have a general concept of the beliefs behind each religion. Each of the religions we covered have one thing in common that stick out, and that is promoting peace and harmony.
