To turn your head in the face of wrong doings is to help the actions be performed. This paraphrased quote justifies the importance of acknowledging negative actions as well as positive ones. In light of current police brutality, it is extremely important to bring light to negative behavior. Not all cops are bad. This is a fact, but that statement does not draw attention to those bad cops who are still policing. When cops are enabled to behave a certain way by people casting a blind eye to negative actions they are taught the wrong lesson. The lessons that cops learn is that they are free to murder citizens, racially profile innocent citizens, and harass coworkers within their cohort. Cops would rather keep silent to protect themselves than be held accountable for their actions. This leads to a continuous cycle of misbehavior. It is still important to praise the positive actions of those good cops. Cops who are there for their neighborhoods, know the children by name, and are able to help members of the neighborhood when they’re in trouble all deserve praise. Just as much as them, the cops that would like to report negative actions should be allowed to do so as well. When a Mom tells their child not to touch the stove because it’s hot, and they touch it anyway they suffer the consequences of an injured hand and a lecture. These combined experiences teach the child not to touch the stove. However, in this case there are better solutions to discipline than are often seen. Instead of screaming at the child, getting down on their eye level and having a conversation with them is beneficial. This way the child learns and will not retain animosity towards the adult who may have been scolding
