Have you ever been angry enough to kill? Some people who make bad decisions would say that it isn’t negative consequences it’s just a lesson learned. This may be true to an extent, but to be completely honest, making bad decisions can get you in a lot of trouble. A Painted House is a must read books that teaches a life lesson that is true to today’s teenager; making bad decisions have negative consequences. In A Painted House, the author uses conflict to show that making bad choices have negative consequences. For example, the author writes, “The two fighters clutched and clawed and rolled around in the dirt like wild animals as the yelling got louder. Then here comes Hank Spruill jumping into the fight and he was beating the boys pretty …show more content…
badly. Now Mr. Hank has himself in a big mess”. This means that because Hank made a bad choice by jumping in the fight and taking it too far, that he will not be getting anything good out of this. Additionally, Lucas said, “I will not speak a word of the fight unless I am made to. Me and Dewayne both agreed to lie about the fight because we knew Hank would get in trouble if we said something and we did not want Hank on our bad side.” Lucas is learning to stay in his own business, and he was not going to speak a word because he was not going to put in the middle of it. Clearly, making bad choices have negative consequences is a life lesson developed through the use of conflict in this book. Making bad choices have negative consequences is relevant to today’s teenager.
For instance, staying up late last night caused me to do poorly on today’s test. I chose to stay up and not study for my test; therefore, my grade was not as high as it should have been. I do not want my grades to go down because of my bad decision to stay up and not study. Therefore, I have learned that making bad choices do have negative consequences. I have promised myself that I will not stay up late and that I will study more. Procrastinating happens to run over into my personal life as well. My room is such a mess you can barely walk anywhere. This causes much stress as I can never find anything in a timely manner. This issue also causes problems with my mother. She will not allow me to go out on the weekends if my room is not clean. I saw that procrastinating and putting things off is negatively impacting my life. In order for things to change I need to learn to manage my time more wisely. Without a doubt, all tell teens can learn from the author’s valuable lesson of how making bad choices have negative …show more content…
consequences. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to others!
This book is about helping out your family and always being there for them. Lucas says “I will pick cotton until the day I die if that’s what I have to do for my family.” That shows that while going through hard times, Lucas will always be there for his family. The book address the importance of having good relationships with your family. Lucas say’s “Me and Pappy argue sometimes, but no matter how bad the argument is we always make up because, we are family and that’s what family does.” This proves that while we all deal with arguing with our parents in our life, making things right is always the best thing to do because after all they know what’s right and just want the best for you. I think this is a really enjoyable book and other people will love it
too! While making bad decisions may happen for many people often, negative consequence can impact your life greatly. Everyone can benefit from the lesson learned in A Painted House. Through this book, one realizes making poor decisions can have a bad outcome and can cause them a lot of trouble in their life that could be avoided. It is only when we make decisions to put forth our best efforts, that we can make the best choice possible.
I learned a lot from this book I learned not to get in gangs and stay true to your family. I liked a quote in this story it said “things are rough all over” to me that meant no matter where you are where you go things are going to be rough so just stop running away from problems because it’s just going to create more. Dally and Sodapop both kind of remind me of myself because I don’t care about nothing but I can understand people and the different things they like and nothing don’t scare me. I think the theme of this story is to be your brothers keeper.
This book teaches the importance of self-expression and independence. If we did not have these necessities, then life would be like those in this novel. Empty, redundant, and fearful of what is going on. The quotes above show how different life can be without our basic freedoms. This novel was very interesting and it shows, no matter how dismal a situation is, there is always a way out if you never give up, even if you have to do it alone.
This movie is one that I have always enjoyed and watching it in class gave me a new appreciation for it. The storybook, introduced into the movie by the grandfather, was the first motif that caught my eye. At first you don’t think much about it but it’s a great representation of so many different things. First off, the boy’s reaction to unwrapping the book is one shared by so many kids in today’s society. A book is seen as somewhat of a chore rather than an indulgence or hobby. The grandfather sets the scene to transition into the actual story with the book. Starting the first scene in the boy’s bedroom gives the movie a sense of realism and one that is relatable. The book gave the movie a whole new dimension that I appreciate and commend the directors and authors for creating. The book also represents tradition in their family. It was read to several generations and symbolizes the love that the fathers and grandfathers have for their children. It shows great patience and the desire to spend time with a loved one to read them a book. That is a gift that is slowly being lost as time g...
All through the times of the intense expectation, overwhelming sadness, and inspiring hope in this novel comes a feeling of relief in knowing that this family will make it through the wearisome times with triumph in their faces. The relationships that the mother shares with her children and parents are what save her from despair and ruin, and these relationships are the key to any and all families emerging from the depths of darkness into the fresh air of hope and happiness.
John Grisham’s book, ‘A Painted House’ places the reader within the walls of a simple home on the cotton fields of rural Arkansas. Within the first few pages, the author’s description of the setting quickly paints a picture of a hard working family and creates a shared concern with the reader about the family’s struggle to meet the basic needs of life. The description of the dusty roads, the unpainted board-sided house, the daily chore requirements and their lack of excess cause the reader a reaction of empathy for the family. Although the story takes place in a dusty setting very unfamiliar to most readers, the storyline is timeless and universal. Most everyone has a desire to meet the basic needs of life, embrace their family ties, and make others and ourselves proud. The crux of this book is that it does an excellent job in showing the reader through other’s examples and hardships to persevere and never give up.
Anxiety. Regret. Frustration. Restlessly glancing at the clock, cringing every time I do. Staring at a blinking cursor, waiting for inspiration. Spending a restless night trying to squeeze out something to turn in the next day. This is a process known all too well by me, and most high schoolers in America, one known as: Procrastination. Procrastination is something easily avoided, and yet, seems to be one of the biggest causes for low grades in most students’ lives. It’s a tempting prospect, putting off your responsibilities to do something enjoyable, but it should be avoided at every possibility. Procrastination causes your grades to suffer, causes your mental health to suffer, and causes you to learn bad habits for the future.
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
The author shows how the feelings of each character affects the story. The sentiment of the father throughout the story is his selfishness. He doesn’t care much about other people
When we see little kids running around and playing or sound asleep, most of us think of them as angels sent from heaven. We, as parents and future parents, love to see our children grow to become handsome sons and beautiful daughters. We do everything in our hands to keep them in the right tracks to become respectful human beings. We would want to be with them every second of their lives, but at some point we have to let them go and set them free. At one point in life, everyone hold secrets, including our own children.
The theme of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is randomly taken from their home and forced to work but they still remain a close nit family. In addition, they even manage to stick together after being separated for one of their own. These show how even in the darkest time they still manage to find a glimmer of hope and they pursued on.
One poor habit that I happen to share with most college/ high school students in particular is procrastination. This curse of pushing off my work led me to a lower GPA in high school than I really should have gotten. It wasn't because that I didn’t understand my classes; it was just the lack of time and effort I put into them. Not only did prolonging my work affect my grades, but it also altered my life. In fact, procrastination led me to not reaching my goals such as going straight to a four year college. Sadly, this trapped me into showing no great
The author uses imagery, contrasting diction, tones, and symbols in the poem to show two very different sides of the parent-child relationship. The poem’s theme is that even though parents and teenagers may have their disagreements, there is still an underlying love that binds the family together and helps them bridge their gap that is between them.

Sometimes it’s the little things you do for your friends that make all the difference, you don’t need to be a “hero” who saves them or their “parent” who tells them what they can and can’t do you just need to be there for them. And I think this book captures this idea beautifully not just with Harper and her friend Cory but also with her and her
