Current Event for August The article “Avocado seed husk may help to treat heart disease, cancer” by Honor Whiteman is about the possibility of avocado seed husk containing behenyl alcohol, heptacosane, and dodecanoic acid. These important supplements are known to help the human body, most antiviral medications contain behenyl alcohol, heptacosane has been shown to help kill tumors, and dodecanoic acid helps to achieve good cholesterol. The avocados that have become one of America’s favorite fruits, may have more benefits than we thought. The avocado seed husk oil was found to help with heart disease and cancer during the study because of the different compounds found in the avocado.

I think that the idea of trying to improve deadly diseases is fantastic. This not only leads to getting closer to a cure for cancer and heart disease, but opens up a new possibility for the health care department. I feel that once this experiment is researched more in depth that it will lead to many other opportunities in the medical field that could improve hospitals and their treatments. Statistics show that 610,000 people die of heart disease every year in the United States, that’s one of four Americans. What if an avocado could help save these precious lives that are lost every year? In the United States alone about 197,450 tons of avocados are produced in a year. This means that this study could help the economy in agriculture to help produce more avocados. Labs would need more avocados in order to make proper medications and treatments for hospitals and pharmacies. I think this article relates to pharmacy, the profession I want to go into, because it shows what the future medications could contain and what this health field’s future looks like. Overall, I think that this study will play a tremendous role in helping save other’s lives. I find it very comforting to know that there may be a possible cure for cancer and heart disease. I hope that Dr. Bandyopadhyay and his team continue to research further into this
