Diagnosis of Autism in a child is commonly experienced as having a devastating effect on parent’s lives. Parents and caregivers are definitely the heart of the family, who not only have to deal with the issues associated with the child’s disability but also has to maintain the household. Irrespective of the pattern of impairment in autism, it is for sure that caregivers have to cope with the special needs and therefore disability in children is not only problem for affected child but in real sense they are “family disease”. Some families, despite having children with severe ASD, have still managed successful psychological adaptation. From this we can infer that the characteristics of autistic children may not be the only factors that influence adaptation. Other types of variables are also involved, including social support, perception of problems and coping strategies. This seems more germane in our country where family bears the main burden of caring for such persons unlike in the developed countries.
