One may say that the atomic bombs are a dangerous and cruel weapon to society, but others may say that atomic bombs are a powerful and safe weapon that ended World War II. Overall, we know that atomic bombs are a lethal and dangerous weapon. The Atomic Bomb was made on July 16, 1945, in the USA. This was the start of one of the most dangerous and destructive weapons on planet Earth. The atomic bomb was made to obliterate anything in its way. The atomic bomb had an impact zone of around 8-9 km which meant anything which came in this zone was either demolished or severely destroyed. Though it was invented to be a source of energy which could have been used for producing electricity or other power sources, it was used to kill innocent people, destroy …show more content…
It was calculated that the explosion had more than 15,000 tons of TNT. The menacing explosion killed 70,000 innocent lives. Then the USA dropped another bomb on Nagasaki. The explosion was equivalent to 21,000 tons of TNT. The bombing annihilated 39,000 more innocent people and injured 25,000 other people. Do you see how multiple innocent lives disappear in a matter of seconds? Secondly, when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan, it demolished Japan’s beautiful and peaceful environment in a second. On the 6th of August 1945, the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. This bomb destroyed the heart of this city of 343,000 inhabitants. After the explosions were finished, more than 67 percent of the city structures were obliterated and damaged. After 3 whole days the USA decided to drop another bomb on Nagasaki. The bombing destroyed about 40 percent of the city’s structures. The bombing destroyed Japan’s environment and its innocent people. This crazy bombing made Japan surrender the next day. Some may argue that the atomic bomb is a reliable source that ended World War 2. The atomic bomb might have ended World War 2, but it did involve lots of
In discussion of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one controversial issue has the dropping of the atomic bombs being justified. On the other hand others believe that there were other ways of getting Japan to surrender and it was not justified, the only way we could get Japan to surrender was to invade them. Our strategy was to island hop until we got to Japan. Many more lives were at steak when doing that. Not only would just Americans would die, but a lot of the Japanese would have died as well, and the death toll would have much greater. 199,000 deaths came after the dropping of the atomic bombs. However, many American lives were saved, what the Japanese did to Pearl Harbor, and the treatment of our American soldiers while
The United States of America’s use of the atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has spurred much debate concerning the necessity, effectiveness, and morality of the decision since August 1945. After assessing a range of arguments about the importance of the atomic bomb in the termination of the Second World War, it can be concluded that the use of the atomic bomb served as the predominant factor in the end of the Second World War, as its use lowered the morale, industrial resources, and military strength of Japan. The Allied decision to use the atomic bomb not only caused irreparable physical damage on two major Japanese cities, but its use also minimized the Japanese will to continue fighting. These two factors along
With multiple chances from the United States to surrender in the war and rejecting each one, the Japanese set themselves up for disaster. On August 6, 1945 the course of history was changed. Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima, and three days later, August 9, 1945, on Nagasaki that ended World War II. Japan had already been a defeated nation from conventional bombs and World War II. Many innocent lives were lost, psychological scars were left on the lives of the bomb survivors, and thus many lives were changed forever. The atomic bombings caused many people to have genetic effects due to the radiation from the bombs. Revisionists have said the US used the bombs to blackmail the Soviet Union. The deployment of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was morally justified because it ended the war quickly, ultimately saved many lives, and was a beginning for many.
On August 6, 1945, a plane called the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. Instantly, 70,000 Japanese citizens were vaporized. In the months and years that followed, an additional 100,000 perished from burns and radiation sickness. Two days later, on August 9, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, where 80,000 Japanese people perished. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is one of the most controversial aspects in the history of the United States because many people believe that it wasn't a necessary action to win the war. While others think that using the atomic bombs on Japan was essential because it saved many American lives. The bombing of Nagasaki, caused catastrophic damage to the city and its people, leaving people to question why did this event occur?
Atomic Bomb The use of the atomic bombs on Japan was necessary for the revenge of the Americans. These bombs took years to make due to a problematic equation. The impact of the bombs killed hundreds of thousands of people and the radiation is still killing people today. People today still wonder why the bombs were dropped. If these bombs weren’t dropped on the Japanese the history of the world would have been changed forever. The Atomic bomb took 6 years to develop (1939-1945) for scientists to work on a equation to make the U-235 into a bomb. The most complicated process in this was trying to produce enough uranium to sustain a chain reaction. The bombs used on the cities cost about $2 billion to develop, this also making the U.S. wanting to use them against Japan. “Hiroshima was a major military target and we have spent 2 billion dollars on the greatest scientific gamble in history- and won.” (3) The bomb dropped on Hiroshima weighted 4.5 tons and the bomb used on Nagasaki weighted 10 kilotons. On July 16, 1945, the first ever atomic bomb was tested in the Jamez Mountains in Northern New Mexico, code named “Gadget.” The single weapon ultimately dropped on Hiroshima, nicknamed “Little Boy,” produced the amount of approximately twenty- thousand tons of TNT, which is roughly seven times greater than all of the bombs dropped by all the allies on all of Germany in 1942. The first Japanese City bomb was Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. An American B-29 bomber, named Enola Gay, flown by the pilot Paul W. Tibbets, dropped the “Little Boy” uranium atomic bomb. Three days later a second bomb named ”Fat Boy,” made of plutonium was dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. After being released, it took approximately one minute for Little Boy to reach the point of explosion, which was about 2,000 feet. The impact of the bombs on the cities and people was massive. Black rain containing large amounts of nuclear fallout fell as much as 30km from the original blast site. A mushroom cloud rose to twenty thousand feet in the air, and sixty percent of the city was destroyed. The shock wave and its reverse effect reached speeds close to those of the speed of sound. The wind generated by the bombs destroyed most of the houses and buildings within a 1.
In the summer of 6th August, a uranium atomic bomb also known as Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima. Few days later on 9th August, the second uranium atomic bomb also known as Fat Man was dropped on the city of Nagasaki. The bombs, as described by observers caused a flash and went up about 570 meters above the city, vaporization anything or anyone that was anywhere near the explosion. Both of these bombs ended the war in a swift manner and spared the lives of many American soldiers. However, the total causalities for both bombs was 199,000 (atomicarchive.com). As always, there are two sides to every story. Many Americans that day, including President Harry Truman, General Douglas MacArthur, and a couple of the Manhattan Project scientists saw the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a necessity to end the war. While many other people argued
When looking at the aftermath of the atomic bomb in both Nagasaki and Hiroshima the devastation it caused is evident. The majority of the population in Japan could have never imagined such a catastrophic event. On August 6, 1945 and August 9, 1945 massive amounts of lives were changed forever when an atomic bomb fell from the sky and created an explosion as bright as the sun. These two bombs were the first and only accounts of nuclear warfare. (“Atomic Bomb is…”) The impact that the two bombs left on the cities of Japan was tremendous. The bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima devastated the country through structural damage, long term medical effects, expenses, and the massive loss of life.
On August 6, of the year 1945, an American B-29 bomber plane dropped a nuclear weapon known as “Little Boy” onto the Japanese City known as Hiroshima. This was the first ever nuclear weapon used in an act of war. It detonated 2,000 feet above the city and instantaneously killed around 80,000 people. Within the next three days they dropped another nuclear bomb on Nagasaki and killed about 50,000 people instantly. Over the course of the next 2-4 months, the casualties doubled from radiation effects. The US did this in hopes of ending WWII and retaliation for Pearl Harbor.
The atomic weapons were not dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to harm innocent Japanese civilians, even though this is what many people see when they look at the atomic bombs. The bombs were dropped to end World War II in the most efficient way possible at the time. Gar Alperovitz, a professor at The University of Maryland, states, “He believes United States policy makers used the weapon mainly for military reasons—because it would end the war more quickly. Though he wavers a bit here and there. . .
There are many huge things that decided WWII with the atomic bomb that was a huge. The US making the bomb. The bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The people who made the bomb. And Last, what would happen if the US never bombed Japan? The use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was essential to the United States winning the war.
The Atomic Bomb: Should we have dropped it? Did we make the right choice? Should we have dropped the Atomic Bomb? This is a question that many have asked over the years.
The Atomic Bomb Was an Extreme Measure The decision of the United States to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic bombs is not defendable. The Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked a turning point in human history and ended World War Two, which raised doubts about the usage of nuclear weapons. The atomic bombings caused mass civilian suffering. After the bombing, the immediate death toll from the bombings and the effects such as radiation sickness caused suffering among civilians (“Nippon Times”).
I cannot begin talking about “The Cask of Amontillado” without first mentioning its author, Mr. Edgar Allen Poe and his unique style of writing. Poe’s style of writing is described as “Dark Gothic.” Poe uses irony to create a comedic effect which only foreshadows the horror ahead; his short story writing still giving readers the full effect of the story; Poe felt a story should be read in one sitting, with each event occurring in order keeping with the storyline as he states in his essay “The Philosophy of Composition.” His use of imagery and symbolism putting pictures in our minds leaving us in suspense; the unreliable narrator, clearly in an effort to substantiate his sanity is definite verification of his insanity. Poe’s immense use of never ending dramatic irony grabs the reader from beginning to end in “The Cask of Amontillado.”
The Bombing On Hiroshima and Nagasaki The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked the start of a new era of warfare, enabling a state to damage an entire city with a single weapon. The attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki changed warfare, leading to the decision to drop the atomic bomb to end the war fast, given Japan’s resistance, the long invasion plan, and the need to protect American lives. While nobody knew when the war would end, the bombing of Japan was justified because Japan had not surrendered, the invasion would take two months and prolonged the war, and saving American lives. Many historians have claimed that Japan was about to surrender, but evidence suggests they hadn’t decided before the first bomb was used.
On August 6, 1945 the first of two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan by the United States in order to finish World War II. The first one landed over the heavily populated city of Hiroshima. The second bomb was dropped, not only three days later, on August 9, 1945 on another Japanese city called Nagasaki. Both atomic bombs made terrible impacts on the cities they were dropped on. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed beyond belief leaving a trail of dust where once families lived a normal life. The U.S. should not have dropped the Atomic Bomb on Japan because it affected the climate and world’s mindset, targeted two sites that were not military bases, and killed a profuse amount of innocent citizens.
