There are many options for elderly people to decide how they want to age especially in the United States. Different options have both their advantages and shortcomings. A good decision is the one that is taken according to the requirements of an elderly person. Some of these options are discussed here in detail. It is a great option for people who have some disabilities. These people are usually able to take good care of them but just find it difficult to perform some tasks as they are limited by a particular disability or physical handicap. Assisted living facilities are housing facilities which are serviced usually by healthcare professionals. Residents living in these homes are constantly monitored so that their safety can at all times to be ensured. Professional help is always available on hand should a person requires any assistance. Assisted living is a more modern concept that has become common in the last two decades. It especially provides care options for individuals who are looking for just some help and are not completely dependent on others to do their work. There are many healthy elderly people in the country who have a particular problem. Assisted living provides them the option of having the freedom to do most of their tasks while able to call for the required help when needed in a particular activity. People are not allowed to permanently in a day care center. It works in the same manner as the day care center for young children. It is a place where adults can spend time in a group setting and provides an excellent place for carrying out short term rehabilitation. Most adult daycare centers work by providing social contact to elders who have joined the center. They ensure that people attending them have a good set of activities to perform and are just supervised in a very gentle manner during their time spent in the center. These centers therefore are based on a social model which is designed to provide for the social needs that most adults miss when they are alone at their homes. Some centers though also function to provide for some special medical needs. These centers are especially those that cater to rehabilitation services and skill assessment. The medical activities based centers are generally good for people who have just recovered from mental illnesses and are looking for a gradual integration in the mainstream
