Having read about medicalization issues in this chapter, obese people will be impacted in a way that differs person to person. Personally, I think that such diagnosis are necessary to understand, in particular, that overeating is not okay, it is a sickness. Biotechnology has contributed to an increase in people overeating knowing that there is a such thing as a "flat tummy tea" and a dietary pill. Consumers also now have an understanding that cosmetic surgery can help rid of access fat in undesired places.
