1. After the death of Mabel’s father, Mabel and her brothers are left without enough money and are about to lose their house. This is one of her emotional conflicts because without any money, Mabel sees no reason to keep on living and tries drowning herself. Fergusson also has emotional conflicts because he thinks he loves Mabel, but at the same time he tries to stay away of loving her. A physical conflict is when Mabel forces Fergusson to stay with her because she knows that he loves her. She believes that because Ferguson saved her from drowning, took her to his house, and undressed her thinking that he is going to take full responsibility of her. Fergusson gets a little scared by this because he doesn’t like the idea of being in this situation.

The beginning starts off by telling us about all the characters and what is going on. Later in the story, we are viewing the story from Mabel and later from Jack Fergusson.
4. I believe that the setting of the story is in the early 1920s in an English town and also during the winter. We know that Mabel’s father was the only person that brought income to the family and his business left the family in debt. They know that hour well,” (page 57-58) meaning that women and children are never awake and have no regret. Rose Mary is a selfish woman and decides not to go to school some mornings because she does not feel up to it. Jeannette takes the initiative in making sure that her mother is prepared for school each morning because she knows how much her family needs money. Even though Rose Mary starts to go to school every day, she does not do her job properly and thus the family suffers financially again. When Maureen’s birthday approaches, Jeannette takes it upon herself to find a gift for her because she does not think their parents will be able to provide her with one. The narrator makes comments and observations that demonstrate her will to overcome the oppression of the male dominant society. The conflict between her views and those of the society can be seen in the way she interacts physically, mentally, and emotionally with the three most prominent aspects of her life: her husband, John, the yellow wallpaper in her room, and her illness, "temporary nervous depression. " In the end, her illness becomes a method of coping with the injustices forced upon her as a woman. As the reader delves into the narrative, a progression can be seen from the normality the narrator displays early in the passage, to the insanity she demonstrates near the conclusion.
Point of view is one of the single greatest assets an author can use. It helps to move the plot along and show what is happening from a character’s perspective. An author can make the plot more complex by introducing several characters that the reader has to view events through. The events can then be seen through different eyes and mindsets forcing the reader to view the character in a different light. From one perspective a character can seem cruel, yet, from another, the same character can seem like a hero. These vastly contrasting views can be influenced based on the point of view, a character’s background, and the emotions towards them. Point of view is described as the perspective from which a story is told (Literature, G25). In the story "Everyday Use" the point of view is that of first person narrator or major character. The story is told by the mother in the story. The theme of this story is that of a mother who is trying to cope with changing times and two daughters who are completely different. Having the story told from momma's point of view helps to reveal how momma feels about herself and how she defines her daughters Dee and Maggie.

The girl in this story is incredibly naive. Her character is very weak due to her inability to realize the inevitable. This creates the internal conflict in which she faces. By the usage of first-person point of view, Tallent enables the reader to realize the obvious truth that this girl refuses to see. The entire setting takes place in a small town, where there is "nothing else to do," inside of Jack's dirty old pickup truck, and symbolizes the filthiness of their sex based relationship.

In Toni Cade Bambara's "The Lesson," the events are told through the eyes of a young, mischievous girl named Sylvia who lives in a lower class neighborhood. The reader gets a limited point of view of view because the events are told strictly by Sylvia. This fact can influence the reader to see things just as she does. The strong language gives an unfamiliar reader an illustration of how people in the city speak. Bambara does this to show the reader that kids from lower class neighborhoods are affected by their environment due to lack of education and discipline, that how different one part of society is from another, and that kids learn from experience. We also get an insight of Sylvia’s feisty, rebellious nature and her lack of respect towards people with an education.

The story starts off with Elsa putting away Mrs. Montjoy's pots and pans in her cupboard, but she is not placing them where they need to go. Mrs. Montjoy comments, "And the colander on that hook there." (Page 1) As if Elsa isn't upset enough, Mrs. Montjoy doesn't even care about what Elsa is trying to say to her what so ever because Mrs. Montjoy doesn't have any interest in her life. At this point you understand that Mrs. Montjoy only wants her around to take care of what needs to be taken care of that's her job and nothing else. The story takes you back to how Elsa came about living with Mrs. Montjoy. It was all set up between an old friend of Elsa's mother's and Mrs. Montjoy for Elsa to take the summer job for her and be her maid. Now Elsa is taken to the Island where Mrs. Montjoy and her family live. They are traveling on a boat which Mrs. Montjoy thinks scares Elsa, but really doesn't. At this point Elsa is confused on why Mrs. Montjoy would think it is such a big deal if she really was scared, since Elsa is all right with showing fear because it's something normal to her unlike Mrs. Montjoy.
Breaking down point of view in stories can be helpful in determining the central idea, as the two concepts typically support one another. An author such as O’Connor has the ability when writing narrative to use whichever point of view they feel best portrays the story they are telling in the way they would like readers to understand it. By using the third person omniscient point of view, the narrator is able to render the characters with information related both from direct description and from the other character's revelations. This way, the description remains unbiased, but at the same time coherent with how the various characters see it. For example, after the narrator tells us that "He was an only child, eleven years old. She was a widow. She was determined to be neither possessive nor lacking in devotion.", we are able to understand why the boy is so emotionally attached to his mother and, at the beginning, unwilling to ask her for permission to go to his beach and, later in the story, unwilling to let her know about his adventure through the tunnel. This also explains why the mother let him go without questions, even if she was very worried about him.
