Many leave their countries in sake for the American dream; to find a better job, to start a family, and to pursue education. In America, immigrants play an impact role. They are strengthening America’s economy and works hard for this country. Bill Clinton once mentioned in his speech, “Immigration Benefits America,” that immigrants reminds him of the American value, “They are renewing our most basic values and reminding us of what it truly means to be American” (86) In fact, they are no longer considered a minor group. S are potentially to adapt to the new culture than their parents. They are to be introduced to American ideology in school, unless their parents. Individuality in America is a cultural value, but the case for Asians differs, as family and community is the cultural value in Asian countries. Most Asians are supposed to do whatever their parents will for them to do. Their work, marriage, studies are mostly controlled by their parents. If an asian student was asked about his intentions in picking his major, “My family wanted me to that,” is the answer in most times. S as children, one of which is my friend Mai Trang. She is the only One-and-a-half in her family that consists of 4 persons, her father and mother that are first generation immigrants, and her brother who was born in the U. S, a second-generation. She is the bridge between her parents and her brother, that most times she has to explain to her parents her brother’s actions and vice versa. If you were to be a child for a First generation parents, who speaks a poor to no english, you are probably to be the full-time translator in the family. With immigrant parents, easy things like buying products from a grocery shop to government documentations, are done under the supervision of One-point-five immigrant. Ji Su Kang, an One-and-half asian immigrant, mentions in a speech,“Paper Pilots,” that the One-point-five in the family are usually the ones who handle a conversation between an immigrant and an attorney, “One-point-five immigrants are there for every single step of the immigration process, every interview, phone call, and meeting,” (TedxTalks). No immigrant generation is dismissed from facing problems;However, Asian immigrants whether they were from the First or the One-and-a-half generation are most likely to face more problems that any other immigrant group.
