The clock is counting down until mom gets home what is she supposed to do… previously in the short story “Ashes” by Susan Beth Pfeffer Ashleigh or “Ashes” is the daughter of her divorced parents, her mom being the “non-dreamer” kind of person while her dad is a goofy fun loving kind of person. Later on in the passage Ash has to chooses whether to take $200 from her mom’s emergency money to give to her dad for a financial problem. Ashley did take the money because, she seemed very loyal to her dad, she wanted her dad to be able to pay off his financial problems, and she trusted her dad. Ash seemed very loyal to her dad, she seemed so loyal to her dad because In the text, she said “I wouldn't have any other dad”(pfeffer, 2) , which proves she loves him. Her loyalty and love for her dad means a lot, so she doesn't want to let him down. “Dad could make anyone in the world smile.”( this quote from the text proves Ash and her dad have a strong, happy bond. “ If I’ve done something , no matter how small, that made the world a better place i'm satisfied.” This statement made by Ash's dad means he will do anything for Ash and she knows it. Ash’s loyalty to her dad will make her get the money. Ash wanted her dad to be able to pay off his financial problems. “Take …show more content…
Problem is I’d never be able to find a car cheap enough to replace it. No Ash’s the teapot is the way to go.”(pfeffer, 4). She trusted him here because Ash understands that he knows what he is doing. “I’d be borrowing the money from you. And I swear to you, Ashes, I’d have the money in your hands by friday at the latest.” (pfeffer, 4). Ash knows she can trust him in this situation because he swore to her that he would have the money back to her by friday. “You let me have the money tonight, I’ll straighten out my little difficulty…”(Pfeffer, 4). Ash can trust that her dad will pay off what he said he would instead of taking the money for

The Truman book I chose to read for the first quarter is All Fall Down by Ally Carter. Grace remembers an old man with a scar who was at the sight of where her mom died when it happened. Grace thinks he is the killer. She calls the man the Scarred man. In the book “The Triangle Fire: A Brief History with Documents” by Jo Ann E. Argersinger. In a short summary this book talks about the tragic factory fire that took lives of 146 workers in New York City, March 25, 1911. The tragedy happened during the great uprising of a women revolution, of many young females going to work to support their families. During this period many women wanted to be treated and work like how men worked. Having equal rights at jobs that were a risk to them, nothing stopped the uprising, until the fire became a change. Both sympathy and rage among all sectors of the American public got up to fight for a change. Argersinger examines in the context, trajectory, and impact of this Progressive Era event. During the Progressive Era, many big changes were being

With every failed escape, she is beaten even worse. The kidnapper finally had enough and decided to kill them. He fills the basement with water until he thought that they were dead. Fortunately, Rainie and the little boy escaped. The boy ran past the attacker while Rainie threw the attacker into the basements. They
The sympathy of loss is persuaded as a devastating way on how a person is in a state of mind of losing. A person deals with loss as an impact on life and a way of changing their life at the particular moment. In the book My Losing Season by Pat Conroy he deals with the type of loss every time he plays basketball due to the fact, when something is going right for him life finds a way to make him lose in a matter of being in the way of Pat’s concentration to be successful.
“The Cold Embrace” by Mary E. Braddon is a wonderfully tragic short story of a young man’s denial and guilt till the end of his life. Braddon accomplishes this by using Omniscient narration to not only showing us his guilt, denial, and struggle; but also able to present his spiral into a depression filled with delusions and guilt that eventually lead him to lose his mind and perish from outside a first person perspective.

After her diagnosis of chronic kidney failure in 2004, psychiatrist Sally Satel lingered in the uncertainty of transplant lists for an entire year, until she finally fell into luck, and received her long-awaited kidney. “Death’s Waiting List”, published on the 5th of May 2006, was the aftermath of Satel’s dreadful experience. The article presents a crucial argument against the current transplant list systems and offers alternative solutions that may or may not be of practicality and reason. Satel’s text handles such a topic at a time where organ availability has never been more demanded, due to the continuous deterioration of the public health. With novel epidemics surfacing everyday, endless carcinogens closing in on our everyday lives, leaving no organ uninflected, and to that, many are suffering, and many more are in desperate request for a new organ, for a renewed chance. Overall, “Death’s Waiting List” follows a slightly bias line of reasoning, with several underlying presumptions that are not necessarily well substantiated.
Human; relating to or having characteristics of a person(Merriam-Webster). A human is truly just a soul combined with characteristics of other people, and this is proven by Jenna Fox; the main character in The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson. After finding out what her body is made up of, Jenna along with other characters think she is not human. Despite this Jenna Fox has always had the key elements it takes to be a human been. Jenna for one has a past and memories that make up her life even after the accident. More importantly it is unfair to call her a “monster” when she shows characteristics similar to that of other humans. Needless to say, Jenna just as any other human isn’t perfect, and she later learns that in order to be one hundred percent human she must have the same chances of succeeding in life as any other human would. Jenna Fox is human because she has a soul regardless of her differences.
Death and Grieving Imagine that the person you love most in the world dies. How would you cope with the loss? Death and grieving is an agonizing and inevitable part of life. No one is immune from death’s insidious and frigid grip. Individuals vary in their emotional reactions to loss.
In “A Rose for Emily”, Charles Faulkner used a series of flashbacks and foreshadowing to tell Miss Emily’s story. Miss Emily is an interesting character, to say the least. In such a short story of her life, as told from the prospective of a townsperson, who had been nearly eighty as Miss Emily had been, in order to tell the story from their own perspective. Faulkner set up the story in Mississippi, in a world he knew of in his own lifetime. Inspired by a southern outlook that had been touched by the Civil War memory, the touch of what we would now look at as racism, gives the southern aroma of the period. It sets up Miss Emily’s southern belle status and social standing she had been born into, loner or not.
The mother who was receiving the check for her laid husband was against her son Walter’s decision for owning a liquor store. Walter truly showed his desperation for success by saying, “I want so many things that they are driving me kind of crazy…Mama – look at me”. (1.2.222), by him pitching his business plan to his mom shows how desperate a man who has little to nothing to call his own can be. Because his mom has faith in his decision to invest his money she decided to go ahead and let him have it. His risky decision to invest his money in his business lost not only all of the money for himself his mother had given him, but he also lost the money that was supposed to be saved for his sisters college tuition. I was able to relate to this point in the story because I have made the same mistake before with my financial aid money. Although the loss of losing something so dear to you can be hard to overcome mentally, those who recover always come out
I remember my father handing my mother money regularly to put toward the utility bills while she would scrub the kitchen floor. By the end of the day, my mom was usually too tired to cater to my father because of the attention she gave to her home duties during the day. At the end of the day, my father didn’t understand why my mom didn’t have energy to fulfill his needs.
