Nathaniel Philbrick tells the story of the Pilgrims, beginning with them breaking away from the Church of England, emigrating to Holland, and eventually to America on the Mayflower. He talks about the relationship they had with the "Strangers" or nonbelievers that accompanied them on their adventure. He tells stories about disease, death, deception, and depression. I had never thought about it, but you know some of those people had to be suffering from depression. He tells of joys but mostly of hardships and as he describes some of the first meetings with the Native Americans. His description of the first Thanksgiving is not the same as the pictures I have seen all of my life.
Chapter two describes “The Dinner”, hosted by Thomas Jefferson at his residence in New York City about June 20...

Some examples of farce in the movie are: • In the beginning of the movie, you hear the sound of music and horses. However, it turns out that it was not horses at all; it was the sound of King Arthur’s squire pounding two coconut halves together to make the sound of horses galloping. They then go on to confront two soldiers at the castle gates to invite their lord to be apart of the round table. they approach a castle and are quickly confronted by soldiers on top of the castle walls. The soldiers went on to question their mode of transportation.
As one of America’s leading contemporary poet’s, Sharon Olds is known for the intense personal and emotional poetry that she writes. Her ability to intimately and graphically divulge details of her personal life allows readers to delve into the deepest parts of not only her mind, but of their own as well. Sharon Olds uses her writing to allow readers to experience the good and bad of life through her eyes, yet allows readers the interpretive freedom to define her works as they fit into their own lives. Through the characters of Lionel, Friday from Robinson Crusoe, as well as Eli’s link to the symbolism of the cabin, Thomas King clarifies upon the discrimination that still exists in Native communities and their appreciation of nature. King incorporates the idolization of materialistic objects which are dematerialized due to the irritable ungratefulness of the Whites, in the novel. King concludes his story the same way that it commenced, recapitulating the idea of water and its link to purity and the degradation of racial borders over the
At first, I was not sure how I would identify with this book. It was a self-help book about how to live a wholehearted life. Brene Brown wrote the book The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to be and Embrace Who You Are. She is very insightful and uses quotes and data to back up her research and reasoning. I cannot count how many times I wanted to share what she had written with many people I know that could use the information or feel this way or that about what she was talking about at that moment on that one page. Sometimes I found the answer to a question I did not know I had or just an insight into something that I have been struggling with. Every human has some imperfection that they wish they could get freed

“Come on in,” Uncle George yelled to my cousins, Terry and Savannah. On a cool November day, Thanksgiving to be exact, all of the women in my family were gathered in the kitchen preparing dinner. Aunt Debby was making yams and washing the collard greens before placing them in the pot to be cooked. Aunt May and Aunt Janet were working on the dressing and macaroni while all of the other women of the family are doing everything possible to make this festive holiday a success. “Turn the TV up and be quiet!” Uncle George was now grumpy! The McDonald’s Thanksgiving parade was broadcasting on the television and it is his favorite thing to watch the morning of Thanksgiving, but for the rest of the day the television would
While my dad was in Texas, I was home alone is the same house my dad grew up in. My dad had told me about these people that have been trying to buy this house from him and to not let anybody take it from us. After a week went by, These people came to the house and tried to buy it from me. I said no but they wouldn't go away and kept asking me if they needed to raise the price. I told them good day and slammed the door in their face. The next day, a car pulled up and a man got out with a pen and a piece of paper. I knew that they were going to try and buy the house so I called my dad and told him what was going on. Luckily, my dad was already on his way home and right as the man barged into the house and threw me onto the ground, my dad came in and threatened them that he was going to call the cops. The people left and after everything was over, I trusted my dad even more. This story is like the treasure of Lemon Brown because in both stories, the person that is protecting something valuable to them ,also protects the people that helped them protect it as well. The

The future is inevitable. It is only with experience that one can come to an understanding of any sort. It is only with time that experience can become achievable. Understanding one’s true self can only be made possible with a multitude of experiences, leading to realizations. The entire package of experiences for one individual person can take no less that a lifetime. This reality, in itself, is a tragedy. A tragedy that Arthur, King of Camelot, was destined to realize.
In Alice Munro’s short story, “The Turkey Season” the writer uses literary devices to bring hidden meaning to character, theme, plot and setting. Subliminal use of similes, metaphors, personification, and onomatopoeias bring a more profound understanding to the work.
