Men are not supposed to be paid more for performing a particular job just because they are men. Women that decide to be different and work in the STEM field often leave because of limitations and extreme work pressure. Young women may be discouraged from certain career paths because of industry culture. If a woman works the same hours, performs the same tasks, and has to meet the same goals of her employer as a man does, she is entitled to equal pay. When women are paid less than men based on gender, it is a form of sex discrimination and it is illegal. Discrimination may not happen just when on the actual job, but also every stage leading to the woman’s job. A chart in 2015 shows that women earn less at every education level they have earned, with a college degree men make about 10 dollars an hour more than women. Women must work, on average an additional forty four days to earn the same annual salary as men working an annual salary. The percentage of pay for men to women increases for women at the ages between twenty five and thirty four, but older and younger women don’t get paid as much as the twenty five to thirty four ranges. Women spend twice as much time engaging in housework and caring for household members than men. Even job categories that are predominantly occupied by women, they still only earn about 95 percent of men’s wages for performing the same jobs.Over several decades, millions more of women have joined the workforce and made huge gains in their educational attainment.
