Prostitution, the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment.Experts say estimate number of prostitutes in the United States alone is one million to two million, not counting all the others who haven't been caught.
I feel as if the question shouldn't be,"Should prostitution be legal" but,"Why is it even a option in the first place" or, "What does it say about our society".The fact that woman think their only option for income is to sell their own bodies is preposterous,an prostitution is not the only example of that. There are more than enough jobs(prostitution ,pornography industry, strippers) that oppress woman in this day and time.Although men work these jobs too, people tend to focus more on the woman

" That is an example of something someone who opposes of prostitution would say. Although I don't believe that statement to be all that true, I am fully aware that in certain scenarios woman are "owned" by their "pimps", who abuse them and actually force them to have sex with other men. But what I will say is, woman choose to this most of the time because of lack of income, available jobs the're qualified for and jobs in general. Also I want to address that these are two consensual adults (emphasis on the adults), the only difference from any other sexual relationship is that someone is paying for that "service". Instead of criticizing a person for choosing what they want to do with their OWN bodies why not help them especially since you are so focused on their health why not make it legal so that hypothetically it could be an actual job and get health benefits.
"Prostitution demeans woman"
Bill O'Donnell, former Nevada state senator (R-Las Vegas), was quoted by Alexa Albert in Brothel(2001) as having said:
"It bothers me that we're [Nevada] making money off the backs of women. Condoning prostitution is the most demeaning and degrading thing that the state can do to women. What we do as a state is essentially put a U.S.-grade stamp on the butt of every prostitute. Instead, we should be turning them around by helping

The’re are many examples of this, like the trafficking of drugs, assault, murder, etc. It’s ignorant to think that a human being can be controlled especially since it’s been proven countless times that people do what they need to do to survive and prosper.
They also believe that prostitution being illegal will lower the percentage of STD’s. A ridiculous statement at its best. People are going to have sexual intercorse with other individuals regardless. Especially since some sex workers do it for the money but also for the enjoyment for the act. Also take in to count that the’re many, many other people who contract STD’s every day that aren’t prostitutes. Like I stated before instead of critizing, how about legalize it and help them get the proper care to prevent STD’s.
Some might say that illegalizing prostitution will help sex workers get out of poverty, i say it does just the opposite. If a sex worker would get caught they would have to face the penalty of said act, wich in the state of Texas is a huge fine and time in jail. How would that help them land a job. It would do the complete opposite , it would make them less qualified and, less appealing to the hiring
As prostitution is criminalized, this profession is driven underground which undermines the safety of prostitutes. Legalizing prostitution would provide sex workers with regulatory protection and allow this form of work to be recognized as legitimate. As the author of “Think Again: Prostitution” states, “evidence shows, that criminalization of sale or purchase (or both) makes sex workers-many of whom come from marginalized social groups like women, minorities, and the poor-more vulnerable to violence and discrimination committed by law enforcement. Also, criminalization can dissuade sex workers from seeking help from authorities if they are raped, trafficked, or otherwise abused.” Therefore, sex workers are subjected to unfair treatment that could be prevented if this work was legalized and safe conditions were enforced. The author of "Counterpoint: Prostitution Should Be Legalized” states, “prostitution is legalized and regulated in a variety of developed nations throughout ...
When looking at legalized prostitution you see safer and healthier women, and shouldn’t that always be the point of everything we do? To answer this question it is important that you understand what prostitution is. As defined by the Merriam –Webster dictionary prostitution is “the act of having sex in exchange for money”. In most of the United States prostitutes or sex workers work on the streets, shady alleys or what some would refer to as “crack houses”. Prostitution is sometimes referred to as the longest standing profession, and what is very clear is that it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Brothels and prostitution was frequent and rampant in the past. If you look into ancient Roman society you will find a great deal of art depicting sexual acts between, men and women along with sexual acts between homosexuals. It is also important to know the difference between legalizing prostitution and decimalizing prostitution. Legalizing prostitution means creating a system of regulation with government control. Decimalization means removing all laws against prostitution.
Prostitution is not a crime. Many women consider prostitution an easy alternative for a job. Allowing prostitution can make women warning as prostitutes feel confortable and go to the doctor often for checkups. Women should be able to do what they want with their bodies after all. They own their bodies. With the legalization of prostitution the rape cases would decrease.
The problem with legalizing prostitution is it promotes human trafficking, exploits women, and presents traffickers with a bigger industry. Human Trafficking is trading human beings for sex, labor, or any other force trade. Prostitution enforces human trafficking. The number of women enslaved daily is greatly increasing, because the sex industry is growing fast. This is a major problem for our generation and for generations to come.
Prostitution is looked down on as an immoral activity. Some people do not even consider it to be a profession. It is indeed morally wrong but maybe it is considered so because of social norms. Women who participate in this profession are seen as harlots and tramps and a disgraceful member of society. Some of these women are addicted to drugs, they have no other choice but to be involved in the profession while others have been coerced into it. Most of their backgrounds involve terrible role models while others have parents that forced them into doing these acts.
Prostitution is common lewdness for hire, the act or practice of a woman who permits a man who will pay her price to have sexual intercourse with her. It is a universal phenomenon with moral, social, cultural, psychological, medical, and other aspects. Although male prostitution is also found, that involving males exclusively is best considered as part of the general problem of HOMOSEXUALITY.
Refuge from abusive families and limited economic options(Prostitute Alliances Can Combat Human Trafficking,1) Refuge from these families will not only help the workers but their emotional state as well. Their limited economic options will hopefully open up to be able to support themselves. Workers from the sex industry will be able to have the same benefits as other workers from other industries. (100 Countries and their Prostitution Policies,1) Having these benefits will also their increase to save money as well to support themselves or their families. These same benefits include job resources, health resources, etc. Their reputation of working in the sex industry should not be tarnished in any way. (100 Countries and their Prostitution Policies,1)Their reputation not including being called a whore or any other uncalled for names. Thus prostitutes should not be labeled because of their
Apparently, there are some ways within which sex work is helpful to girls. there's no logical basis for the argument against sex work or the criminalization of the sector. I actually have evidenced that sex work isn't essentially consumptive of girls. Sex employees face a danger of exploitation these days solely attributable to the criminalization and branding of sex add our society. Laws that criminalize harlotry and alternative types of sex work are superannuated, impractical, and harmful.
First, Prostitution shouldn’t be criminalized because it is a victimless crime. In no way is there a victim in what prostitutes do, of course you could argue that the spreading of diseases could be a victim. But the fact that it could happen during regular intercourse should completely nullify that argument in favor of legalizing. Criminalizing prostitution is a way for slowing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases; it is not a way to confront the problem of STD’s. We saw this quite clearly in the time of alcohol prohibition in this country. “Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. –Unknown
Little do most know, but on “[a]verage [prostitution] arrest[s], court and incarceration costs amount to nearly $2,000 per arrest. Cities spend an average of 7.5 million dollars on prostitution control every year, ranging from 1 million dollars to 23 million dollars.” Prostitution is the oldest known profession. Currently in 49 countries and counting prostitution is legal. Here in America there is a stigma following the label prostitute. We would rather resort to underground markets of sex labor. Endangering health, rights, and economics. Legalizing prostitution can reduce health hazards by giving heath care, also by giving rights to those that choose prostitution as their profession. In the long term this
There are many reasons why prostitution is illegal some do make sense on why it is illegal. That still doesn’t mean that the government can tell us what to do with our life choices. A reason why it is illegal is because of homicide. How this works is by the customer promising a big load of cash. Then when they are done he or she does not pay and then kills the prostitute. Unfortunately, sometimes it could be the customer that gets killed just like what Aileen Wuornos did. Aileen Wuornos was a former prostitute that found a way to make easy money without having sex. Instead of having sex with the customer she would kill them and take their money. From her crime that she committed I can understand why it is illegal. The only problem with that not everyone wants to have sexual intercourse with a prostitute. It is basically like doing drugs or drinking underage or not there are people who want to do it then there are people who chose not to do it. I am not saying doing drugs and drinking is not a proud thing to do, but it is a human right
Prostitution is the act of selling ones body for any type of sexual intercourse in exchange for money. Today, both men and women are willingly and forcefully engaged into the industry of sex and prostitution. It is most common for young teenage girls to be involved into this industry rather than a male or older woman. There are several different ways to how individuals are first brought into prostitution. One way is to be kidnapped and forcefully put on to the streets by a "Guerilla Pimp". "Guerilla Pimps" are the men who use their ability and force to kidnap young girls and throw them on to the streets to work as prostitutes (Youth Radio). Another way to be introduced to prostitution is by being persuaded by "Romeo Pimps". "Romeo Pimps" are the men who sweet talk you into situations and act like nothing is wrong with it (Youth Radio).
According to ProCon.org, prostitution was a profession that dated back to 2400 B.C. Though many things since then have changed, the practice of selling sex has been more or less the same. What has changed is the way that people now view the practice. Throughout the years the debate has been whether prostitution should become legal or illegal. Organizations like Amnesty International want to push forward the idea of legalizing consensual “sex work” between two adults who are willingly participating because it would help keep those in that line of work safer than they are now. While on the other side of the issue there are
Legalising would bring about better working conditions and better wages for the sex workers by eliminating middle men such as pimps. By regulating the laws with regard to prostitution, it will by great deal help to reduce child trafficking and slowly curb it once for all. It will also help to keep a tab on the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV by providing safety guidelines. Sex workers can also be provided with rehabilitation centres and medical aid in case if required. Legalising prostitution will also protect the sex workers from persecution by police officials, pimps etc. Various studies also show that prostitution can reduce rape and sexual violence to a large extent. Government has given so many benefits to women which don’t extend to sex workers. Legalising prostitution will make it as a profession so these benefits will be extended to sex workers as well. This will further generate income as sex workers will be Liable to pay tax and it would also enable the government to channel money back into the profession, thus enabling it to protect the rights of sex workers
This is because it would now be considered a real job, therefor if one of the workers was hurt because of their job there would be a serious investigation in to it and they would not also be prosecuted. Gary Ridgway was a serial killer in the 1980’s and 90’s. He said himself that he “targeted sex workers because he thought they might not be reported missing”(Gary). This shows how prostitution is a job that currently leaves the workers open to a considerable amount of risk, and because of the fear of getting in trouble with the law the workers are not inclined to go to the police. This means the workers can be victims of crimes not reported, like rape because they fell the police will not believe them because of their profession and the legality of it.
