The camps were maintained in great secertacy and majority of the German had little knowledge of the awful and dehumanising conditions in witch detainees were kept. This practice is violating funmentdal human rights and contridictory many international conventions and treaties we have vountrilary signed. Refugees are a global issue and under the convention, the government must share its responsibility with other countries that are signatories to the convention to fullfill it, and accept that there has been little done to achieve rights for refugees, and seek change. Between 2016-17 these detention centres and offshore processing costed the taxpayer over one BILLION dollars… with a B. last year, the government had to pay 70 million dollars to 1,905 Manus island detainees for the mental and physical suffering they endured whilst being detained. the maintenance of these detention centres are not worth it and place a much larger burden on the government, money that could be allocated into finding an alternative solution for aslyums seekers that do not violate human rights.
