Guns have caused all sorts of problem all around the world. They cause deaths in war, terrorist attacks, and shootings. One intensely debated topic is how to control them. How do we do that without violating the 2nd constitutional amendment? This topic has been very controversial, with some people believing that guns are a constitutional right and there should be almost no regulation on them, while their opponents believe that they should be intensely regulated in order to obtain a lower gun homicide rate. These laws are extremely important because they decide whether people live or die, they determine in the shooting seen on the news continue to occur. The first gun law in the US, that was included in the Constitution, stated that people have the right to bear arms. Farther forward through history, after the acknowledgement of many gun-related deaths, gun control reforms were enacted in order to reduce the high rates. An early illustration of one of these laws is the National Firearms Acts, executed by FDR in 1934, which hoped to eliminate automatic-fire weapons and attachments such as silencers. Many other regulations have come into effect since then. All these laws show that the US has insistently tried to prevent deaths from guns by making this collection of enforcement. (Gettings, McNiff) Recently in 2013, President Obama has proposed additional acts to supplement them. An infoplease timeline states that, “His plan includes universal background checks for gun sales, the reinstatement and strengthening of the assault weapons ban, limiting ammunition magazines to a 10-round capacity, and other measures.”(Gettings, McNiff) The government has tried incredibly hard to control these homicides and get a grip on who is getting guns and what guns they are allowed to buy.
